Sedona Dog Park Master Design Plan Underway

Harley McGuire and pals chillin' at the dog park

SedonaEye.com Four Paws Up Star Pet Columnist Harley McGuire and pals love the Sedona Dog Park and all are encouraged to attend the City community Dog Park Master Plan outreach meetings on November 9.

Sedona AZ (October 22, 2015) – The City of Sedona current Capital Improvement Program Budget has funds allocated for the design of a master plan for the Sedona Dog Park within Posse Grounds Park, west Sedona. The City Parks and Recreation department invites interested community members to attend one of two outreach meetings on November 9, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. and or 5:00 p.m. at the Posse Grounds Park Recreation Room, 525 Posse Ground Road, Sedona 86336.

New updates and amenities could be added to the dog park to enhance the user’s experience; during this design phase possible improvements will be discussed. These meetings are an opportunity for people to express what features they would like to see considered in the park upgrade.

Initially leased by the City in 2005, the Sedona Dog Park is the only park of its kind within city limits. Roughly 1.6 acres, it includes large dog and small dog areas, decomposed granite open and naturally vegetated areas, picnic tables, shade and a watering station. Open year round to the community and visitors, it is a beautiful location to enjoy exercising dogs off leash and socializing with neighbors.

Questions may be directed to the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department at 928-282-7098. The Recreation room is located beside the playground and adjacent to the multi-use grass field at the park. No RSVP is necessary.

  1. Snoopy says:

Now the surrounding neighbors will come out in droves to complain about the hazardous pet waste that will pollute their homes, just like last time!

Always something to complain about in Sedona!!!

  2. Pluto says:

So, “Snoopy,” seems like you are attempting to set the pace for what you are predicting. How about backing off from being so negative yourself. Sounds like you’re related to – well – never mind. Your life is probably miserable enough just based on your comment which is, in itself, a complaint. Lighten up and try chasing your tail.

  3. Why? says:

Is our current Dog park to busy?

    Why add another if not.

  4. Snoopy says:

The only thing I complain about are the “complainers!” Once you live in Sedona greater than 12-14 months the “complainer instinct” takes over.

Years ago, when the current dog park was opened, the Soldier Pass neighbors rallied against the park for fear of canine urine and feces washing onto and polluting their properties.

  5. Rosco says:

Well, Snoopy, you are correct about one thing. It’s mostly those that have lived here 12-14 months that try to take over Sedona and makes things the way they were where they came from. What’s the deal? Why don’t they just move back?

  6. Dog waste is classified as hazardous waste, why do I want it running in my yard? I don’t even like dogs!!! OK I don’t think hazardous waste is the right term for poop because some government moron didn’t have anything better to do on my dime, I can live with some poop if people scoop, it’s the non=scoopers that drive me wonky!! We’ve got an unused tennis court that some boobette and boob in Les Springs want to turn into a dog park. POOP & SCOOP IN YOUR OWN FRIGGIN YARDS BUT DON”T PUT IT NEAR MINE. I hate your dogs & not a fan of you either, I don’t want dog crap trickling on my property if I can help it, and I don’t like you or your cats either for the record. I don’t want to SEE you loitering in the tennis court either; go home. Clean your yard. Damn fine place on the internet here! Keep it up.

  7. Snifter says:

Wow, Mr. Les Springs Gentleman? You don’t sound much like a “gentle” fellow to me. Wow, am I happy we don’t live in your neck of the woods. Yesiree – hope to never meet up with the likes of you, poor chap. Wow!

  8. Sobe says:

It seems to Me if the City is holding two outreach meetings for a new dog park design, they would want the humans who use the dog park to attend. But there are No notices at the dog park. No notice on the bulletin board, nor on the entrance fence where the ‘Yappy Hour’ notices are?

Actually there’s nothing wrong with the dog park layout as it is. The problem seems to be the total lack of maintenance by the City since they took it over about five years ago. Will a new design and lots of money actually encourage the maintenance department to do something? ???

And don’t worry Les Springs Gentleman, our residential humans and tourists alike keep all that poopy stuff very well picked up and in the trash can. Geez I hope I never meet You.

  9. Woof Woof says:

Us dogs have more rights then the “in City” residents and businesses. Unless you a SCC or a COC member.

    smiling

    It is a Dog’s world

  10. Thought City was doing the dog park? Note to Les Springs Board, most LS high-end homes have runs on our own big properties because our dogs and cats defecate and urinate around the clock and wild animals like them for midnight snacks; million dollar houses don’t need five dollar dog parks. Individually we’ve handled our own animal’s welfare, let the City handle its welfare cases.

  11. Vincent says:

I agree with my friend, Sobe. Whatever is decided upon for the dog park NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED REGULARLY. What is currently being used has not been properly installed; no edging was provided to keep the decomposed granite from spilling out, no regular maintenance was performed to keep it sanitary as in wetting it all down on a routine basis and rolling over it as is done on baseball bases which are of the same composition.
