Sedona Construction Projects Move Forward

Sedona construction

Sedona AZ (April 5, 2012) – The City of Sedona staff is working with Tiffany Construction toward a May 2012 start on the construction of the Barbara Antonsen Park within west Sedona Posse Ground Park. This action follows a City Council March 27, 2012 contract approval for the Antonsen park construction.

The Barbara Antonsen Park construction is one of two construction projects proceeding within the city limits over the next several months. The Arizona Water Company will begin installing a water line along Posse Ground Road on April 9, 2012. The contractor for the water line work, Rocky Construction, will be staging some equipment and materials at the area where the Barbara Antonsen Park is to be constructed. It is anticipated that the water line work will be completed immediately prior to the start of the Barbara Antonsen Park work.

Sedona Wetlands project

The Sedona Wetlands project at the Wastewater Treatment Plant received help from the Audubon Society and local volunteers. On March 29, 2012 the volunteers cut poles from existing cottonwood and willow trees around the plant site. The cottonwood and willow poles were prepped for water absorption and placed in the plant site ponds to soak until planting.

On Monday, April 2, 2012 planting site holes were drilled with equipment paid for by the Audubon Society. The volunteers then set the prepped poles, watered, and back filled the cottonwood and willow plantings. Planting enhances the transpiration value of the wetlands which in turn increases the value of the wetlands for effluent management. Plantings also preserve and promote wildlife habitat.

The planting of four Sedona Wetlands project ponds is complete with the remaining two ponds scheduled for completion on or by April 9, 2012. The construction of the wetlands was approved by the Sedona City Council in October 2011.
