Sedona Commuter Bus Shelter Installed

Sedona AZ (April 30, 2012) – Passengers on the Verde Lynx commuter route in Sedona, Arizona are a little more comfortable now as the first of six planned transit bus shelters was installed at the State Route 179 and Sombart Lane stop.

Created to replicate Capital Butte in the background, the new shelter provides basic protection from the elements and pays tribute to Sedona’s stunning scenery. The bus shelter’s striking three-dimensional effect was created by layering colored inserts.

The remaining five bus shelters will be installed later this year in west Sedona at Dry Creek Road, Harmony Road, Stutz Bearcat Drive, Coffee Pot Drive, and Mountain Shadows Drive. Each bus shelter backdrop will feature unique features such as Bell Rock, Wilson Mountain, and other signature Sedona landmarks.

The transit shelters were built by Arizona Correctional Industries with inmates from the Arizona State Prison Complex in Florence, Arizona handcrafting and powder coating each shelter.

The Verde Lynx Transit Shelter Project was funded by a Federal Transit Administration grant, Local Transportation Assistance Fund II dollars and a funding match by the City of Sedona.

–consider this a bone to pick with the city for a design of the shelter bench/the bench in the shelter doesn’t look right and it isn’t practical in design — – take it from a fellow that lived in the bay area and nyc

make the benches straight benches with no back or arms — and connect it to the 3 sides of the shelter walls~ now it is a bench designed to act like a couch or for park sitting — – design makes it uncomfortable for more than 2 people to sit together if not related – like a couch at home no body wants to crowd in – – if it was a straight bench it serves at least four with basic elbow room a better use of space.

fix the other shelter designs to be user friendly — money on benches that look like couches is not good design.

    thank you.
