Sedona Block Party Permits

Sedona AZ–The City of Sedona Public Works Department, City Maintenance Division has created a Block Party Permit allowing use of the public right-of-way by City residents. The process allows residents to plan their Block Party using the guidelines, procedures and conditions of approval, provided as part of the permit packet, which may be obtained from the City Website, www.sedonaaz.gov under Department/Public Works/Forms.  Applications shall be submitted four weeks in advance of the Block Party. The standard right-of-way permit fee will be required.

This is a simplified right-of-way permit process, specific to Block Parties. Following the permit guidelines will help maintain a safe environment around the Block Party event and adjacent neighborhood. The applicant is responsible for collecting the signatures of the property owners and residents directly affected by the Block Party and or street closure. Block Parties may not be held in front of nor affect access to non-consenting properties. The permit may allow for a temporary street closure so that a block party can take place on City streets. Street closures can be permitted as long as the vehicle traffic on the proposed street is estimated at less than 300 ADT (Average Daily Traffic) and a traffic control plan is submitted. A cul-de-sac is usually the best location for a Block Party. Proposed closures on streets with an estimated 300 ADT and higher will require a right-of-way permit and a traffic control plan. Permit fees apply for right-of-way permits. The applicant is also responsible for posting the permit on-site, clean up and removal of any traffic control devices used during a street closure at the end of the Block Party. City personnel shall have access to permits at all times during the Block Party.

A block party may require other permits, besides right-of-way use permit issued by the Public Works Department. The need for additional permits depends on the type of activities and structures associated with the party. Block Parties  involving cooking, open flames, food vendors and amplified music require a TUP
(Temporary Use Permit). Please contact the Sedona Community Development Department at 928-203-5024 for information. All tents and open flames also require a permit from the Sedona Fire Department (2003 International Fire Code Standard). You may contact the Fire District office at 928-282-6800 for more
information. For additional information regarding these permits, contact the City Maintenance Division Traffic Aide at 928-204-7800.
