Sedona Beit Sefer Shalom Religious School

jewish community sedona verde valleySedona AZ (July 20, 2013)In the magnificent red rocks of Sedona is a unique unaffiliated Jewish Synagogue and an even more unique religious school. The synagogue is the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley (JCSVV) and the school is the newly named Beit Sefer Shalom.

Over the past years, the religious school has welcomed as many as 20 students and as few as 4 or 5. In order to provide a Jewish education for the children and families seeking it out, the JCSVV religious school curriculum and philosophy adapt as needed for its multi-age groups. There have been numerous beautiful B’nai Mitzvah, Tu B’Shevat Seders, joyous Hanukkah programs, “Birthdays” for Israeli Independence Day, and High Holy Day Children’s services!

Beit Sefer Shalom meets for twenty eight Sundays a year for two hours each session, sessions that emphasize the joy and knowledge of Judaism through interactive experiences and a family approach across all age levels. The school is housed in the lower level of the synagogue building, an important place in the beautiful building, as originally planned by the synagogue Board of Directors.

The Rabbi of the JCSVV, Alicia Magal, is an active spiritual leader for the school. In addition, Beit Sefer Shalom is led by Director teacher, Diane Schoen. The families of the children and all synagogue families support and participate in the many school events, with many members giving graciously of their time to volunteer in the classroom.

Once a month the congregation and the children celebrate a community Shabbat with an early service and a Shabbat dinner. The children and their parents and grandparents receive a blessing from the rabbi and from the entire congregation.

Beit Sefer Shalom is a Jewish religious family school supporting the care and future of Judaism in the red rocks of Sedona. We welcome families to visit and join. For more information, call the JCSVV at 928- 204-1286 to speak with Rabbi Alicia Magal or contact Diane Schoen at dianeschoen@gmail.com or www.jcsvv.org.
