Sedona AZ (February 26, 2015) – The Boca Raton Museum of Art in Florida announces that 42,500 people attended and 230 artists participated in the 29th Annual Outdoor Juried Art Festival, which took place February 7 and 8, 2015. Carol Cole-Footitt, a craft/wood/fiber artist from Sedona, Arizona, was selected as Best in Show and received the $3,000 cash prize.

Walter O’Neill, Director of the Boca Raton Museum Art School, judged this year’s festival along with Allan Pierce (photographer, instructor at the Art School and member of the Artists’ Guild) and Ralph Papa (plein air artist and a member of the Artists’ Guild).

“The three judges, including myself, voted independently and our criteria were artistic merit, skill of technique and originality,” said O’Neill, continuing, “Each exhibitor was graded in each of these categories to determine the Best in Show and 9 Merit Award winners.”

The nine Merit Award winners each received $1,000 and the list included three artists from Florida: Scot Buccina, a sculptor from Hobe Sound; Mark Widick, a photographer from Boca Raton; and, Gregory Pitts from Davie who works in Mixed Media. The six Merit Award winners include: Yu Zhou, painter from Yardley, PA; Jana Epstein, photographer from Atlanta, GA; James LaCasse, sculptor from Denver, CO; Wayne Gao, mixed media from Rowland Heights, CA; Molly Strader, jewelry from Perrysburg, OH; and, Kenyatta Ray, mixed media, from Heverlee, Belgium.

The 29th Annual Outdoor Juried Art Festival was presented by the Museum in partnership with the City of Boca Raton, Palm Beach County Cultural Council, and the Palm Beach County Tourism and Development Council.

Founded in 1950 by the Art Guild of Boca Raton, the Florida museum’s collections, innovative exhibitions, and educational programming are international in scope and reflect the creative expression of the Florida region. In 2001, the Boca Raton Museum of Art moved into its new home in the heart of Mizner Park. The Art School, located nearby on West Palmetto Park Road (the Museum’s original location), offers more than 100 weekly classes in a variety of media for adults and children. The Artists’ Guild remains a strong auxiliary of the Museum with more than 350 artist-members who actively exhibit throughout the area and whose work may be seen at the Artists’ Guild Gallery on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.
