Rollover Leaves One Dead

Coconino County Patrol Mapwilliams arizona azSedona AZ (July 22, 2014) – Coconino County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies and detectives are investigating a single vehicle rollover and collision that occurred on Monday, July 21, 2014, at about 5:25 in the evening on Drake Road, within close proximity to the Bar Heart Ranch headquarters, Williams, Arizona. The vehicle had two occupants, the driver and a front seat passenger.

It is believed that Rocky Deibler, 32, of Williams, Arizona, was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. At this point in the investigation, CCSO deputies believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed as it crested the hill east of the Bar Heart Ranch. It is believed that the driver began to lose control as the vehicle reached the bottom of the hill and slid across both lanes of traffic. The vehicle hit a large rock on the shoulder of the road, and eventually rolled over – once completely – then flipped end over end. Deputies believe Deibler was ejected at the beginning of the roll, and came to rest approximately 20 feet from where he left the vehicle, resulting in severe head trauma.

Deibler was flown to the Flagstaff Medical Center by Native Air Medical transport where he was pronounced dead. The second occupant was taken to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center by Lifeline Medical transport and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The deceased was transported to the office of the Coconino County Medical Examiner for further examination and investigation.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) assisted with this investigation. Additional agencies that responded and assisted with patient care, collision investigation, and on the scene management included the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Chino Fire Department, and the Ash Fork Fire Department.

CCSO is investigating the possibility that the consumption of alcohol, or other substances, may have played a role in this collision. Investigators are attempting, also, to determine which of the two occupants was driving at the time of the accident.

No enforcement action will be taken until the investigation is completed.
