Prescott National Forest to Burn Wood Piles

Prescott National Forest locationPrescott AZ (January 9, 2013)Prescott National Forest Fire managers are planning to burn wood and debris piles January 10-11, 2013, pending favorable weather conditions. Burning piles of debris left over from thinning projects require an adequate amount of moisture in the surrounding vegetation to help keep fire from creeping. Crews completed approximately 100 acres of piles on Tuesday and Wednesday (January 8-9) that were planned near Wolf Creek.

  • January 10: Pile Location (T10N, R1W, S15) – Approximately 10 acres of piles will be burned near the community of Crown King.
  • January 11: Pile Location (T13N, R3W, S23) – Approximately 50 acres of piles will be burned near Thumb Butte, just south of Irons Springs Road.

All prescribed fires activity is dependent on the availability of personnel and equipment, weather, fuels and conditions that minimize smoke impacts as best as possible and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
