Prescott Man Found In Tent With Hunters Gun and Knives

Prescott Arizona resident Bryan McClellan arrested

Prescott AZ (August 27, 2012) – On August 25, 2012, at approximately 8:30 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to School House Gulch Road in Groom Creek, Prescott, regarding a vehicle burglary.

A 47-year-old Dewey resident told deputies that he and a friend had just returned from bow hunting and found several items, including a .45 caliber handgun, missing from his white Ford truck. He recalled securing the truck with his remote key fob which also sets the vehicle alarm. Sometime later, he heard the alarm activate, returned to his vehicle, and found the interior ransacked and property missing.

It is unknown at this time how the suspect gained entry to the vehicle but it is possible that one of the doors did not fully lock.

The Dewey burglary victim and his friend began a search for witnesses in the area and located a tent hidden in the brush some distance from Senator Highway on School House Gulch Road. Through a screen, the two were able to glimpse inside the tent and saw a man with the victim’s handgun in his lap.

Using discretion, the pair backed away and called YCSO.

The victim led deputies to the tent. After containing the area, deputies called out the occupant. He was subsequently identified as 37-year-old Prescott Arizona resident Bryan McClellan.

YCSO deputies detected the strong odor of marijuana during the contact with McClellan. A search of the tent revealed the Dewey victim’s backpack containing his wallet, driver’s license, camera, cash, and assorted knives. The victim’s handgun was also recovered.

McClellan refused to discuss the incident or his involvement.

McClellan was arrested and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including Burglary, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia. He remains in-custody on a $2,000 bond.
