Phoenix Attorney Disbarred

State Bar of Arizona logoPHOENIX AZ (February 24, 2012) – The Arizona Supreme Court has ordered disbarment for Phoenix, Arizona, lawyer Gil Shuga.

Shuga was investigated for violating various provisions of the rules of professional conduct. During its investigation, the State Bar found that Shuga settled a case without the proper authorization, engaged in the misappropriation of funds, and lacked adequate client communication. He also abandoned several cases that required clients to find another attorney, and in some cases, lead to case dismissal.

During the investigation, the State Bar presented substantial facts to support allegations that Shuga engaged in serious misconduct, which if continued, would result in extensive harm, loss, or damage to the public, the legal profession, or the administration of justice.

As a result of the investigation, the State Bar filed a motion for interim suspension on October 17, 2011. Shuga did not file a response and the Arizona Supreme Court granted a temporary suspension on November 22, 2011, while it ordered the interim suspension that was filed and effective on January 1, 2012.

Shuga failed to meet an appeal deadline for that Bar’s motion for disbarment. As a result, the Presiding Disciplinary Judge of the Arizona Supreme Court issued its final judgment and order on February 17, 2012.

Shuga must pay restitution in the amount of $12,000 to one client and must also pay for all costs and proceedings in this matter to the State Bar of Arizona in the amount of $2,037.95.

The State Bar of Arizona is a non-profit organization that operates under the supervision of the Arizona Supreme Court.
