Pat Beaty Keynotes League Forum on Regionalism

Sedona AZ (March 18 2011)–Pat Beaty, Senior Fellow and Project Director at the Center for the Future of Arizona in Phoenix will address “Regionalism–Its Application and Possibilities for the Arizona We Want” at the League of Women Voters of Sedona-Verde Valley public forum Friday, April 29 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Yavapai College Verde Valley Campus, 601 Black Hills Drive in Clarkdale Arizona. The forum is entitled “DOING Regionalism in the Verde Valley” and can be found on the YC-VV Campus in Building M, Room 137.

Beaty is a strategic planning and marketing consultant with more than 40 years experience working with three public university systems and a broad array of non-profit and business organizations. Her presentation will set the stage for panels of local speakers on regionalism in the Verde Valley and experiences about local activities relating to history, culture land use, economy, the arts, education, government, growth, open space and environment.

The full program will be announced prior to the event. The League has a long-standing position in support of “making connections by modeling leadership, working with others, bridging barriers and using regional approaches” however “talking” about regionalism is one thing, and “doing” it is quite another. Often well-meaning efforts to bring like interests together just do not work out.  Sometimes governments initiate actions without considering neighbor reactions and sometimes projects click and become real success stories.  This forum will review what’s been done and not done; how it’s worked and has not worked.  According to Judy Miller, LWV Forum Coordinator, “The forum promises to be a day of learning, networking, and great ideas–regionally speaking!  Our forum is “the place to be” on Friday, April 29!”

The forum which includes lunch is $30. Pre-registration is required by April 20 2011. Payment may be sent to LWV-SVV, P.O. Box 966, Sedona, AZ 86336.  For information, contact Ruth Kiessel, (928) 634-5827 or RAKiessel@hotmail.com.
