Paria Canyon Helicopter Rescue

Coconino County Sheriff BadgeFlagstaff AZ (April 19, 2013) – Today shortly after 11:00 in the morning, an Arizona Department of Public Service Air Rescue Helicopter and crew flew over Paria Canyon looking for two reportedly missing hikers. The pilot made the decision that he could safely fly into the canyon and after locating the two men, the helicopter landed close to the victim’s location.

Once on the Canyon floor, a DPS paramedic crew member accessed both of the victim’s conditions and found that William Austin had a minor medical condition, and determined that Andrew Childers was in good condition.

The DPS crew flew William Austin out of the canyon to Page Airport before returning for Andrew Childers. A deputy drove both rescued individuals to their vehicles.
