Arizona Interstate 17 Construction Update

Sedona AZ (October 27, 2012) – The following late night closures and restrictions will be in place on Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction next week as crews work on the new bridges, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:

Monday night into early Tuesday morning, October 29 through October 30:

● The northbound lanes of I-17 will be closed at the Arcosanti bridge from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to remove forms from the bridge. Northbound traffic will be shifted to the new off and on ramps at the bridge.

● Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. and southbound I-17 will be closed intermittently up to 15 minutes between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. as crews place a large crane that will unload concrete girders for the new southbound Big Bug Creek bridge.

Tuesday, October 30:

● Southbound I-17 will be closed intermittently up to 15 minutes from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow crews to place concrete girders on the new bridge over Big Bug Creek.

● Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow trucks to unload concrete girders and enter and exit the highway safely.

● Southbound I-17 traffic will be detoured to the off-ramp at Arcosanti and then directed through the roundabout to continue onto the southbound I-17 on-ramp between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. as work continues on the flyover bridge over I-17, the Arcosanti bridge, and southbound Big Bug Creek bridge.

Wednesday, October 31:

● Southbound I-17 will be closed intermittently up to 15 minutes from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow crews to place concrete girders on the new bridge over Big Bug Creek.

● Southbound I-17 traffic will be detoured from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to the Arcosanti off-ramp and then directed through the roundabout to continue onto the southbound I-17 on-ramp as work progresses on the flyover bridge over I-17, the Arcosanti bridge and southbound Big Bug Creek bridge.

● Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow trucks to unload concrete girders and enter and exit the highway safely.

● Northbound traffic on I-17 will be required to follow a detour from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. off I-17 to Stagecoach Drive and then to the Arcosanti traffic interchange to access northbound I-17 to allow crews to work on the bridge over I-17.

Thursday, November 1:

● Southbound I-17 will be closed intermittently for up to 15 minutes from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow crews to place concrete girders on the new bridge over Big Bug Creek.

● Northbound I-17 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. will have alternating lane restrictions to allow crews to set concrete girders on the bridge and restripe the roadway.

● The southbound lanes of I-17 will be closed at the Arcosanti bridge from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Southbound traffic will be shifted to the new off and on ramps at the bridge to allow crews to remove forms from the bridge.

Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during those hours or allow extra travel time. The work zone will be clearly marked with detour signs.

The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct Arizona I-17 and State Route 69 traffic interchange.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
