Ochser Resigns from Sedona International Dark Sky Association

Sedona AZ (January 13, 2010) – Clifford Ochser, President of the International Dark Sky Association Sedona Section has resigned as its leader. Ochser founded the Sedona Section and served as its president since its 2008 inception. Explaining his resignation, Ochser said, “The purpose of starting the Section for Sedona and the Verde Valley was to highlight the opportunity we have to protect our beautiful night sky. We have succeeded beyond our goals. The community has been completely supportive of our cause.”

The IDSA Sedona Section helped produce events for the community under Ochser’s leadership. Two free community “star parties” were held with hundreds of people attending each. Ochser said that star parties will not end.

“My company, Evening Sky Tours will continue to hold the star parties to gather the community to celebrate the beautiful night sky in Sedona.”  In addition to the star parties, Ochser pointed out that the Sedona Section produced several educational seminars on light pollution, assisted the City of Sedona with identifying and resolving the out-of-compliance lights on SR 89A, and co-sponsored numerous community events with other local non-profits.

Ochser plans to focus energy on running his business and helping elect local representatives who will commit to protecting night skies from light pollution.  “We have started the political organization Voice of Reason Against Continuous Lighting and, through this organization, we will help protect our night sky by electing responsible leaders who will put the environment of Sedona first.”

Voice of Reason Against Continuous Roadway Lighting (VORAC) lists as its address Post Office Box 463, Sedona Arizona 86339.
