At 8:00 a.m. this morning, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call and were dispatched to a Prescott Arizona Lynx Lake campground regarding a vehicle theft that just occurred. The reporting party told dispatchers a naked man “on drugs and out of his mind” had stolen his red Jeep from a campsite.
Within minutes of the initial call, the victim reported hearing his Jeep crash nearby. Deputies arrived in the area at 8:15 a.m. and heard a man screaming. They eventually located the man and the crashed jeep near Enchanted Forest Road. As they approached the man suspected of stealing and crashing the Jeep, his pit bull dog attacked a deputy and the dog was shot and killed.
Deputies eventually were able to subdue the uncooperative suspect with the aid of an electric stun gun and he was taken into custody.
Emergency medical personnel were called and transported the suspect to YRMC in Prescott. He is identified as 27-year-old Calvin Forrey from Prescott, Arizona. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit under observation. It is unknown at this time what factors caused Forrey’s behavior.
The deputy attacked by the pit bull was bitten. The officer was given medical treatment and is expected to fully recover.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau have been on scene throughout the day investigating the incident. Detectives discovered a YCSO report documenting contact with Forrey on June 25, 2012 at his Prescott, Arizona home. A family member called to request deputies at that home due to Forrey’s disorderly behavior and his refusal to leave. During an interview with YCSO deputies, Forrey admitted a prior addiction to bath salts. He was cooperative at that time and allowed to leave.
It is unknown at this time if Forrey was under the influence of any drugs during today’s incident.
