Northern Arizona Educators Certification Needs Addressed

AZ Education Superintendent Diane Douglas

AZ Education Superintendent Diane Douglas

Sedona AZ (July 23, 2015) – Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas announced that a full-time position dedicated to serving the certification needs of northern Arizona’s education community has been established at the Arizona Department of Education’s Flagstaff office.

“This new position will make a real difference for educators who would otherwise have to make long drives to receive assistance related to their certificates,” Douglas said. “We heard the need for more localized support during my recent ‘We Are Listening Tour’ and I am very pleased that we will now be able to provide this service to the region.”

The Superintendent said this position is part of an ongoing plan to provide services on a regional basis wherever possible.

In addition to assisting teachers and administrators with certification questions, the new specialist will also work closely with Northern Arizona University’s teacher preparation program to identify ways to keep its many new graduates in Arizona as they become teachers.

The position will also provide direct support to Native American educators as they prepare for testing requirements and other important steps in the certification process.
