Sedona AZ (October 29, 2012) – The 6th Annual Mitzvah (Good Deed) Day will take place in Sedona and the Verde Valley on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 11:45 AM until 5 PM announced Reisha Akers, Sedona City Councilor Barbara Litrell, and JCSVV Rabbi Alicia Magal, co-chairs of the event under the auspices of the Sedona Community Center. Everyone is invited to perform a good deed and participate in this inter-generational, interfaith, spirit-led day of community service in Sedona and the Verde Valley.
The 2012 Mitzvah (Good Deed) Day theme is Total Community Involvement and will include non-profits, faith communities, businesses, local clubs and organizations, school groups and individuals from throughout the community. The goal is to mobilize 500 volunteers for 50 projects ranging from cleaning, weeding and landscape maintenance, to painting and window washing. Non-profit organizations provide the projects and the Mitzvah Day Planning Team recruits and assigns volunteers. In addition, crafts projects benefit Meals on Wheels recipients, cancer and hospice patients, seniors in nursing facilities and others throughout Sedona and the Verde Valley.
This year’s good deed day, an Arizona Centennial year event, will be on Veterans Day and special projects will honor and assist veterans.
On November 11, volunteers report to and sign in at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, 180 St. John Vianney Lane, Sedona from 11:45 AM-12:30 PM: Cottonwood volunteers report and sign in at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, 330 Scenic Drive, Cottonwood, Arizona.
Mitzvah Day is funded by grants, donations and in-kind services from the City of Sedona, local organizations, faith communities, businesses and individuals.
