Sedona AZ (December 14, 2014)Merry Christmas! OH HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!

At least every year we’re sposed to have Peace and Goodwill on this place called earth during this special time called “Holiday Season” but sometimes it don’t seem some people even want to take a short time out from being disagreeable.

Now if a few of those grouchy control freaks would just stop and think ‘bout maybe in the next life they will be slithery snakes, lizards, scorpions, or other slimy critters. Yuck! But maybe that’s what’s on their future wish list to Sandy Claws.

Might just be ‘cuz they would never have to serve as much else but “Eek!” provokers which just might make them more pleasant and happier next time around.

As for myself, I’m just so darn lucky.

You see, I have my own most beautiful Christmas tree with little animal decorations and pretty lights. Mom has it where I can’t get to them ‘cuz from where I sit gazing up at them they just look like they should be in one of my several toy baskets.

No so. They have their place and I ‘spose if I could wish for anything else it would be another tree . . . no replacement, understand . . . just another tree with little angels as the ornaments and they would all have special names. “Why?” you ask.

Well, ya see, the past few months have taken a toll on some of my best pals, playmates, and supporters of what started out to be letters to “Dear Harley McGuire.”

But it’s OK ‘cuz comments from my fans mean ever so much and I will sorely miss hearing from my recently departed kitty kat pals, Cole and Mandy, and puppy dogs Charlie Bert and Inoch’s sister, Sadie.

It’s a sad note to have to let ya’ll know that also my doggie pals Panda, Digger, and Maggie had their recent call to cross over that “Rainbow Bridge.” For those who may not know ‘bout that story, here is a reminder:

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

“There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eye of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

Author unknown . . . “

Having that empty hole left anytime is a desperately sad feeling, but this time of year, when people are whooping it up with joy, it makes it ‘specially difcult to try filling that empty spot with much of anything but longing for that special furry friend to be back in your arms, healthy and happy.

But, ya see, if they can’t be healthy they can’t be happy, so just know that they are in a better place waiting for you across that Rainbow Bridge.

Now Mom made me promise that I would take a moment to honor a few of her own special human friends who recently vacated their place on this earth.

sedona city snowman christmas tinsel townJoyce McMclennan at one time spent a lot of time here in Sedona but in past years lived back in Swansea, Great Britain.

We had to say “goodbye” to our California friends Dorothy Otten and, former Sedona neighbor, Pat Harden.

Other Sedona neighbors, Marjorie Miller and Phyllis Lindberg were also called to serve elsewhere.

Although lost to us prior to this past year, a special tribute and hats off to former Sedona residents Barbara and Wally Parks, (NHRA), beloved friends but before my time, who left forever their blessings on Sedona with the idea and creation of the bumper stickers:

“Keep Sedona Beautiful- When you leave, take someone with you.”

So them’s Mom’s contributions with one other exception:

She asked for me to make another acknowledgment of the recent loss of our own Mrs. Sedona City Manager, Helen Chua Wood Ernster. Her sudden passing was untimely and shocking, leaving all to wonder: “Why?”

Heed Harley McGuire's wise words.

While none of us have answers, we become aware that our paths at some point will take the same direction. Where, when, how or why remain unknown. But we who are left will thrive on happy memories, acknowledging the blessing of having been touched with unconditional love and devotion from pets and special humans who forever have left their etched messages in our hearts and minds.

Not to be forgotten are the yet to be rescued animals in our humane and animal shelters. They are all candidates for helping to mend broken hearts. In fact, that’s the main reason I’m in my own “forever home.”

Mercedes and Randolph along with many others are waiting in that special meadow across that “Rainbow Bridge” where someday we, too, will join them.

Harley, you know my “kids”, Nikki & Mojo and dearly departed Fabian, but although you didn’t know Wally & Barbara (like your Mom did), you would have loved them…especially Wally’s wonderful wit and sense of humor. And they would have loved you. Have a Merry Christmas & a healthy New Year. The kids love your articles as do I.

Hey, Harley buddy. You sent a bitter-sweet message here. But the best thing is it serves as a heads-(and tails)-up for all to enjoy the moment and appreciate our good fortune to have become “forever” pets to loving families.

  6. It’s with a tear in my eye and a droopy tail that sadly I must report the news that my dear friend Cassy crossed over that Rainbow Bridge on December 18th. I’m ever so sorry but fondly remember the day we frolicked at the Posse Grounds on Dogs Day Out. Rest in peace, Dear Friend. Your were loved a lot and will be missed even more.

And for those other humans out there who have had the honor of taking care of the most wonderful and loving four legged friends, and have lost them. Know that Your beloved friend would want You to share Your life, love and care with another homeless animal while still holding them in Your heart.

  8. Merry C and HNY everybody

  9. The City of Sedona will be offering an environment-friendly way of recycling your Christmas tree again this year. A special thanks to the property owner, who again this year has allowed the use of this property for the tree recycling program.

From Thursday, December 26, 2014 through Monday, January 26, 2015, the City will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling. Trees can be dropped off in the lot at the corner of Saddlerock Circle and State Route 89A. No yard debris please.

Please remove all stands, ornaments, nails, lights and tinsel from the trees. After January 27, the trees will be offered to the US Forest Service to be used as erosion control in the national forest or mulched up and re-purposed.
