May is Older Americans Month

Kim Johanson, Contributing writer SedonaEye.com Senior Issues and Health Care

Sedona AZ (May 26, 2011)–Home Instead Senior Care would like to ask the community to join them in honoring seniors throughout the month of May, which has been designated Older Americans Month.

This year’s theme, Older Americans: Connecting the Community, pays homage to the many ways in which older adults bring inspiration and continuity to the fabric of our communities. Their shared histories, diverse experiences, and wealth of knowledge have made our culture, economy, and local character what they are today. Many older adults volunteer their time, and are mentoring the leaders of tomorrow, taking to heart the need for intergenerational learning to guide and inspire young minds.

Home Instead is suggesting a simple way to recognize these people who have made such significant contributions to our families, community and country. Think about visiting your local garden center to purchase a living gift to give to an older family member, neighbor, or friend to whom you wish to acknowledge

“Flowers and plants are a traditional way of giving tribute and expressing love or gratitude. May is a perfect time, and this is a perfect way to let seniors know how much we appreciate and admire them” said Susan Abbott of Home Instead Senior Care.
