Man Arrested for Murder of Two Year Old Girl

Valle AZ resident Jose Zenaido Acevedo arrested for murder of two year old girl

Flagstaff AZ (November 8, 2012) – Twenty five year-old Jose Zenaido Acevedo of Valle, Arizona, was arrested on Monday night after Coconino County Sheriff Deputies and Detectives were sent to a Valle residence on the report of an unconscious two-year-old child.

On October 29, 2012, at about 10:50 in the morning, the Williams Arizona Police Department received a 9-1-1 call of an unresponsive child at the Valle area home. The call was relayed to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and Deputies along with Emergency Medical Personnel from Guardian and Life Line which responded to the home. Prior to the arrival of the first responders, the victim’s biological mother returned home and made a second 9-1-1 call to report that her two year-old daughter was unconscious.

Upon the arrival of medical personnel, the child received on-scene emergency medical care and was flown to the Flagstaff Medical Center by a Guardian Helicopter.

Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies learned that Mr. Acevedo was living at the home with the victim and her mother, and he was described as the mother’s boyfriend. The child’s mother left her daughter in the care of Acevedo while she was at work.

During interviews with Acevedo, detectives determined that he gave multiple and varying accidental excuses as to why the child was unconscious. None of Acevedo explanations were consistent with the victim’s injuries which included severe head trauma.

Acevedo was arrested on Monday night for Child Abuse and Aggravated Assault and was transported to the Coconino County Detention Facility where he is incarcerated.

At about 8:10 PM on October 30, a physician at the Flagstaff Medical Center stated the two-year-old victim had no brain activity and later pronounced her deceased.

Coconino County Sheriff’s Detectives and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing this investigation.

Flagstaff has agreed to a $225,000 settlement for the family of a 78-year-old man killed by police as he held his son at bay with a shotgun. Kenneth Mitchell was holding the gun to his son’s head after the son had assaulted his mother with a knife in August 2010 Officer Roy Taylor opened fire, thinking he was stopping an execution. The Arizona Daily Sun reported city officials said Friday they agreed to settle at request of their insurance carrier. They reiterated their support for the officer’s decision to use lethal force. The city will pay $50,000 toward attorney costs and insurance will cover the settlement. The family filed a $5 million lawsuit in March 2011. The 33-year-old son was sentenced to three years’ probation for attempted assault…..

All the son got was three years probation?!:! for trying to kill his mother and causing the death of his almost 80 year old father??!!! And the family SUED?? The poor cop that was right to shoot because he thought he needed to save a boy from a madman father, only to discover the boy was the madman?? This son must be a monster!! This is no KID. Who would let him off with probation?? Is this sad or what?? Not right that the family SUED – they may not have raised the kid to be a monster but he is and they should do their best to not ruin more lives than their own.
