Sedona AZ (October 16, 2013)The Arizona Supreme Court has appointed the Honorable David L. Mackey to a new three-year term as Presiding Judge in Yavapai County.

Presiding Judge Mackey was appointed to the Superior Court in Yavapai County in 2001 and became Presiding Judge in 2011. Judge Mackey is a graduate of Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona. He started his career in private practice until joining the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office as a trial attorney before his appointment to the bench in 2001.

Judge Mackey is Chairperson of the Committee on Superior Court that addresses issues impacting the Superior Courts throughout Arizona and is a member of the Arizona Judicial Council that serves as a board of directors for administrative issues impacting the entire state court system.

Presiding Judges in Arizona take on extra duties and serve as the chief executive officer of the county courts, overseeing all aspects of court business. The Presiding Judge supervises case assignments, sets the court calendar and monitors performance of the courts to ensure that cases are processed in a timely manner.

“Judge Mackey has demonstrated outstanding leadership by ensuring a fair and impartial justice system that protects the community, children, and families. I appreciate his willingness to continue serving Yavapai County Superior Court as its Presiding Judge,” commented Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court Rebecca White Berch.

Judge Mackey looks forward to the completion of the Prescott Courthouse renovations that will allow the historic Courthouse to continue to serve the people of Yavapai County for years to come. He is most grateful for the support of the Board of Supervisors and looks forward to continuing a productive working relationship with elected and appointed officials in Yavapai County.
