Local Hit and Run Suspect Arrested

mazdaSedona AZ (April 22, 2014)Just after three o’clock in the morning of April 20, 2014, Arizona Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 1400 block of Verde Valley School Road about a hit and run accident. The reporting party told deputies that after hearing screeching tires and a loud crashing sound, he went outside and found extensive damage to a concrete wall, mailboxes, and landscaping on both his and his neighbors properties.

Prior to the arrival of deputies, the property owner located an unoccupied vehicle with obvious collision damage parked in the 1100 block of Verde Valley School Road. The vehicle, a Red Mazda RX7, was registered to Sunny Michalicek, 30, residing in the Village of Oak Creek, Sedona.

A record check indicated Michalicek had an outstanding felony arrest warrant with a bond of $25,000 involving a DUI case. A film canister inside the vehicle was found to contain marijuana residue. The vehicle was impounded as part of a hit and run investigation.

The estimated property damage is at least $2000.

Around 10:45 p.m. that same day, YCSO deputies found Michalicek at his home on Valley Trail in the Village of Oak Creek. He admitted to the hit and run claiming he did not report the incident because he was “shaken up and scared.” Michalicek was arrested for his felony warrant with additional charges that include Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Criminal Damage and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Michalicek bond is currently $26,500 and he remains in-custody in the Camp Verde Detention Center.

Michalicek denied he was under the influence at the time of the accident claiming the collision occurred while swerving to avoid a Javelina.
