John McCain, the Republican from Arizona, is introducing legislation that will, if passed, severely limit our access to dietary supplements and create obstacles for companies trying to develop new health products.

My Letter:
You should be MORE concerned with the incestuous relationship between the FDA and Big Pharma and with a slew of dangerous drugs on the market that are known to kill human beings, like VIOXX (and many others); not restricting our choices of what supplements we can buy or create acts to make things more difficult for supplement manufacturers to introduce new
products. Wake up, Congress, you’ve go four illegal wars going on that are sucking our economy dry. While people are in the streets losing their homes and jobs, you send billions of dollars to corporations to bail them out. I suggest you get your act together and leave supplements and vitamins alone and start paying attention to more important things. In other words, stop playing politics with our health freedoms. Let companies create many new and novel supplements. Don’t sell out our rights to BIG PHARMA!

It boggles my mind that Sen. McCain would burden us with this type of
legislation which will result in more government control over our lives.
It truly IS an effort by Big Pharma to eliminate the ability of Americans
to participate in their own health care by restricting availability of vitamins
and other nutrients. FDA’s performance has been lousy when it comes
to approving harmful prescription drugs. All one has to do is watch the
many TV ads concerning possible lawsuits due to adversive and even
fatal effects of some of the prescription drugs.
This type of control has been tried unsuccessfully before, but we are now
living under different government authority. We need to inform everyone
we know and FIGHT this battle hard.
Sen. McCain’s office read to me a prepared script to refute my concerns
but it only served to increase them, because he just doesn’t seem
“to get it”, or, on the other hand, maybe he does?
This “proposed amendment” will not doubt fill McCains’ coffers so that he can finance his fight against J.D. Hayworth.
