Arizona Road Warriors

Arizona Road Warriors

Sedona AZ (February 10, 2010) – In a shared letter to the Mayor of Sedona, Rob Adams, the AZ LD1 Representative, Andy Tobin, writes a letter of appreciation for the work of Gary Chamberlain and a small group of citizens dedicated to keeping Arizona litter free:

The Honorable Rob Adams

Mayor of Sedona

102 Roadrunner Drive

Sedona, AZ 86336

Dear Mayor Adams,

The purpose of this letter is to recognize the dedication and hard work that Mr. Gary Chamberlain of Cottonwood, Arizona has selflessly given to his community and our beautiful state of Arizona.  Mr. Chamberlain’s crusade to clean up Sedona’s littered highways and it’s neighboring town of Cottonwood has grown from a one-man show to a team of determined citizens, committed to the preservation of our matchless sceneries on Arizona highways.

Mr. Chamberlain has advised me of several local people who have really stepped up.  Please join me in thanking Patricia McQuade, Diane Gallager, Cyndi Chervenyak of Cornville; Beth Cady and Valarie Moore of Cottonwood; Greg Penrod of Flagstaff and Rick Baldauf of Sedona.  These are the folks that make up the ‘Original 8 Road Warriors’ that joined Mr.Chamberlain.  Let me also mention the ‘Original 6 Recyclers’ from Cornville; Carole Lamb-Jean, Connie Morgan, Jim Jean, Charlene Van Allen,  Johnnie Wilson and Ed Helgeson.  They have been instumental in keeping the momentum of this noble effort.

Thanks to Mr. Chamberlain there is a growing awareness of the litter issues that are plaguing our roads.  As he spreads the word in town hall meetings and joins forces with other communities there will no doubt be an increased effort to report violators and participate in ‘community clean-ups.’

I, for one, am grateful for this man’s passion and pride of our home and encourage our neighbors to catch the ‘clean-up bug’.

Let’s keep teaching our children that we’re proud of our cities and state.

Sincerely,

Andy Tobin

  1. Dear Mr. Tobin,

Thanks for the kind words, I just discovered your posting.

With that said, I have had many direct phone messages and email conversations with you and others, from both political parties, about the goals and successes of the Folksville USA effort. I have asked that you and the others bring some statewide attention to the success of FVUSA breathing life into a very broken ADOT Adopt-A-Highway Program.

We have been featured on FOX 10 Phoenix and many news media organizations in Arizona and some nationally.

Our FVUSA success has come about by our FVUSA participants and with no help from ADOTs AAH managers to include the Director of ADOT …. how else can I say it?

If you could arrange a meeting for several of the FVUSA folks to meet with those who are willing to change some of the crippling restrictions of the ADOT Adopt-A-Highway program that keeps the program from being effective statewide, we’re willing to meet with these state representatives and we wish to invite news media organizations to attend.

Our FVUSA effort is about results and not recognition ….. we in FVUSA know how to get things done and the need to work with those state representatives who are willing to remove unnecessary road blocks.

Please read the http://www.SedonaEYE.com posting to Governor Jan Brewer where FVUSA mentions that clean highways increase the possibility of tourism, new residents, and new businesses that may bring jobs.

In FVUSA we place great importance on words followed by actions …. What is your action item to help us advance our efforts?

    Gary Chamberlain
