Sedona AZ (September 30, 2010) – The City of Sedona Art in Public Places Committee unanimously approved its recommendation that the proposal by Kim Kori and Ken Rowe be selected as the finalist for the Arizona Centennial public art competition for State Route 179 roundabouts at the “Y” and Brewer Road.
The City of Sedona Committee’s decision took into consideration the 877 responses received from the three public viewings (a total of 314 responses) and the survey on the City’s website (a total of 563 responses). The public opinion count for the Kim Kori and Ken Rowe proposal (“Above and Beyond”) was 546 (62%).
The proposal of Reagan Word (“Hub of Day, Cradle of Night”) was chosen 197 times (23%), and the proposal of Joseph Schibler and Michael Bower (“Crossroads”) received 134 counts (15%).
The Art in Public Places Committee recommendation will be forwarded to the City of Sedona Arts and Culture Commission for its approval on October 7, 2010 and then to the City Council for award of contract.

City Council Approval of Kim Kori and Ken Rowe As Finalist in State Route 179 Public Art Competition
The Sedona City Council unanimously approved the award of contract to Kim Kori and Ken Rowe as the finalist for the public art competition for State Route 179 roundabouts at the “Y” and Brewer Road.
Kim Kori, a 34-year resident of Sedona, is a bronze sculptor specializing in animals and botanicals. Ken Rowe, a 15-year resident of Sedona, specializes in wildlife. Their project budget for design, fabrication, shipment to the site, and assisting with installation of the artwork is $76,700. Their proposal, “Above and Beyond”, was favored 62% by the community in the public viewings and a survey on the City’s website.
