Juvenile On Probation Arrested for Credit Card Theft

yavapai county sheriff officeSedona AZ (August 29, 2013)On August 28, 2013, a 15-year-old Bagdad male was arrested for several charges including Burglary, Theft of a Credit Card, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and Identity Theft. He was booked at the Prescott Juvenile Detention Center.

During the morning of August 28, 2013, a 48-year-old Bagdad resident contacted deputies at the Bagdad substation to report the theft of three credit cards. He also explained that his daughter called earlier after recovering one of the stolen cards at school. He learned that his daughter’s friend had originally obtained the card from a fellow student the prior evening. The student had bragged to several people about trying to use the card in a local ATM machine intending to get $200.

YCSO deputies went to the school and interviewed the student who had original possession of the stolen card. He admitted to possessing the card and attempting to use it in an ATM machine. Without a PIN, he could not access the account. He also confessed to taking two other cards which he turned over to the deputy. He acknowledged that all three cards were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on McKnight Street in Bagdad.

During a follow-up, deputies confirmed the student was on active out-of-state probation for theft; those authorities have been notified.

Many crimes of opportunity such as this are avoided by keeping valuables in a secure place and always locking your unattended vehicle, even when parked at home.
