I-17 Southbound Bridge Demolition Scheduled

Sedona AZ (April 4, 2012) – The Arizona Department of Transportation project to reconstruct the traffic interchange on Interstate 17 in Munds Park will reach another milestone next week with the demolition of the southbound bridge.

Interstate 17 at Pinewood Boulevard will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 until 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012 to provide a safe work zone while the bridge is being demolished.

If safe to do so, the crossing may be opened at night.

Drivers traveling between the east and west sides of Munds Park on Pinewood Boulevard will be required to use a marked detour.

The second phase of the $10 million project began in March 2012 and includes reconstructing the southbound I-17 bridge and ramps, as well as the realignment of Pinewood Boulevard.

Southbound traffic will be shifted to a single lane on the northbound bridge while the southbound bridge is under construction.

The first phase of the project, which included the reconstruction of the northbound I-17 bridge and ramps, was completed in 2011 with the southbound bridge scheduled to be completed in fall 2012. Upon completion, ADOT will have replaced two 25-foot-long bridges built in 1958 with two new bridges measuring 100-feet long.

The speed limit is reduced throughout the construction zone and drivers are reminded to slow down, proceed through the work zone with caution, and be alert for construction equipment and crews.  Obey the law.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions. Unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur and weather may affect a project schedule.
