Human Remains Found Near Yavapai Fairgrounds

yavapai county sheriff officeSedona AZ (March 8, 2013) – On March 6, 2013, at approximately 6:15 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home on Prescott Ridge Road, Prescott Valley, Arizona. This area is located north of the Yavapai County Fairgrounds. The caller told deputies that while horseback riding earlier, he found what he believed were human remains.

The deputies were directed to land north of the caller’s home where the remains were located and confirmed human. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau were contacted for follow-up. Due to the late hour and darkness, the scene was secured and monitored until daylight the following morning.

On March 7, 2013, YCSO detectives arrived to examine the scene and gather evidence. Based on the investigation, detectives believe the remains are likely that of Terry Ferrell, last seen July 3, 2011, at his Coyote Springs home.

Terry, who was 48-years-old at the time of his disappearance, was not reported missing until July 5, 2011. Family and friends had indicated Ferrell was despondent, and likely in possession of a handgun. Search efforts were conducted for two weeks with no success.

The Yavapai County Medical Examiner took custody of the remains. Identity confirmation and cause of death is pending review. Ferrell’s family has been notified regarding this investigation.
