How Safe Are Tap and Waste Waters

water faucetSedona AZ (December 3, 2013)The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

Whenever I read or hear UNPOLLUTED, I must confess a smile comes over me as after more than 30 years in the private commercial water/wastewater industry in Arizona … ‘we’ (that’s you and me) do not have any authentic voice or participation in establishing how “unpolluted” or as regulators term it … SAFE … water is defined.

As all aspects of our WATER is increasingly being privatized the degree of separation between “we” (that’s you and me) and SAFE or unpolluted increases exponentially.

Sedona waste water treatment groundsMoreover the litmus test sanctioned by law providing for “public” input increasingly allows for decisions to be made behind closed doors and without authentic “public” input or questioning. And if allowed, it is only under conditions and circumstances over which regulators/government control the environment, setting, timing, location and best of all … regulators/government write the law to prohibit us (you or me) from obtaining any answer to our query.

Tragically, especially for those of us dependent upon surface water from rivers such as the Colorado River, we are solely at the mercy of those controlling WATER to provide to us water whatever its quality or safeness might be.

As the efficacy of the Colorado River decreases as beign able to provide the amount of water stipulated by agreement locales turn to “recycling” and “reuse” and the technologically challenging “toilet to tap” … Oh, but water purveyors tout the SAFENESS of this toilet to tap declaring they are subjecting the water to rigorous forms of treatment before selling it to us.

But one thing they will not discuss is of the more than 120,000 man-made chemical and compounds that current find their way into the water we ingest … just how many of them do water purveyors test for…?

Likely it will not come as complete shock they test for less than 10% and yet for some unexplained reason they summarily declare their WATER safe and what is even more amazing … we believe it…

Likely there is truth in the Russian proverb … When money speaks the truth is silent.

How “clean” is our water… here in Cottonwood if you let a half glass of water sit for a couple of days it will evaporate and leave a powdery residue…for a approx 100 to 1000 parts per million of stuff in one’s water…is this safe water?
