Historic Prescott AZ courthouse
Sedona AZ (June 22, 2013) – The iconic courthouse in downtown Prescott, Arizona, will be undergoing major elevator upgrades from June 22 throughout July 8, 2013. The current elevator is aging and maintenance parts are no longer available.
Presiding Judge David L. Mackey said, “I appreciate the attention the Board of Supervisors have given to our Historic Courthouse. The elevator replacement and other improvements will allow the Superior Court to continue to serve the people of Yavapai County in downtown Prescott for years to come.”
The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors approved several capital improvement expenditures for the courthouse. The modernization of the elevator is an important component of maintaining the building’s viability.

Chairman of the Yavapai board, Supervisor A. G. Chip Davis, said, “The downtown courthouse is Yavapai County’s crown jewel. We owe it to our citizens to maintain and upgrade when necessary for future generations.”
Because this is the only elevator in the building, the Superior Court is setting a lighter calendar in an effort to minimize the impact on court users. Access to the Prescott Justice and City Courts and Law Library on the first floor will not be affected.
However, if you may have difficulty using the stairs to visit other parts of the courthouse, the court is requesting that you delay your visit until after July 8, 2013, when the elevator is expected to be fully operational.
