Harley McGuire, SedonaEye.com Star Four Paws Up Pet Columnist wishes one and all a very thankful day!

Sedona AZ (November 25, 2016) – And so here it is again – that magical day called “Thanksgiving” when two-legged critters shop for yummy stuffs to stuff into their own tummies after they have stuffed up that turkey bird. Yummy. That simply divine aroma when roasting in the oven cannot be equaled. Yes, indeed. How do you like them fancy words?

But it’s only proper to give a thought to them who ain’t quite so lucky. And that goes not only for the two-leggers but also thems with four feets. Many of our homeless friends are blessed by having found a safe place in humane shelters that are supported by generous friends, but oh for them to be placed in loving forever homes would be the best gift of all.

Goodbye Laurel

Goodbye dear pal Laurel

This Thanksgiving is sorta on the sad side for me ‘cuz my very dear pal, Laurel, brother to sweet Hardy, suddenly took sick and had to cross that Rainbow Bridge. Then my other two boxer pals, Zia and Outlaw, well their dad didn’t want to live in Sedona no more so none of them are around to meet and greet on our daily neighborhood walks.

Pal Skipper

It’s all so very sad, and although I miss them terribly, Mom says we must be grateful they touched our lives and made her smile and my tail wag for as long as we had them around. Course my buddy Skipper is still here along with little Hardy. Even if has no eyesight he wags his tail and it seems like he has better vision than most other living creatures.

Diego

Pal Diego

My two Great Pyrenees pals, Miss Kacee and Mr. Santo, are still here but mostly we visit KC girl at the gate behind the fence at her house and Santo we only see once in a while. Also my other pal Diego has a new adopted brother named Bandit ‘cuz he’s missing one eye. But same as Hardy it seems he sees pretty dang good! And of course I can’t forget to mention beautiful Collie girl, Amaday, who’s also friendly and enjoys meetin’ up with us.

So in spite of it all, guess we have much for which to be grateful. Mom says that it’s important to try to weed out the badness during troubled times and make an effort to sort out the good things to think about. And that’s our plan and we’re stickin’ to it! How about ya’ll?

  5. Happy Thanksgiving Harley McGuire!

  6. Harley, thanks for the holiday greetings. Our mom is spending this Thanksgiving taking care of the “Walnut Acres” animals that consist of two chickens, two dogs and one cat named Roxy. But she did manage to get to her mother-in-law’s to spend one final family holiday with her husband’s mom before she passes. We are both thinking of you, although we’ve never met you, but our mom has had an awful lot of nice stuff to say about you. She tells us she wishes you health, happiness and love during this Thanksgiving holiday and she’s so very thankful to have you in her life.

  7. Buster says:

Hi Harley – so did you get through Turkey Day without freezing or getting blown off your feet with all the wind? Sure do hope so. If you were lucky like me you had a tasty bite of special treats. Yes indeed, a good day for those of us in our forever and ever homes! Four paw hi-five on that one, huh? Arf!

  8. Martha says:

Harley McGuire, I so much enjoyed reading your column on Thanksgiving.
Sad things do occur from one year to the next, but your Mom is a wise lady in reminding us to be thankful for today and the blessings we have in our lives. Keep on writing…

  9. Mojo & Nikki says:

Sorry some of your pals took a walk over the Rainbow Bridge, but know they’re in a better place if they were suffering. We had a big crowd, as usual, and hung around the table in hopes some of the family were sloppy & dropped goodies on the floor. They did, but only the stuff that was ok for us to eat. They were loud and laughed a lot so they must of had a good time. We got lots of attention, hugs n’ stuff so we were happy. Have a great happy and safe Christmas & New Year. We’re gonna’ have a Happy Chanukah & New Year.

  10. Oh, my Dear Friends – how you have cheered me up and offered even more reasons to be thankful. It warms my heart and tummy like those special treats we gets (even tho they ain’t specially good fer us) and reminds us of how much we’re loved. Blessings to all of you.

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Feliz Navidad, Happy Holidays, and mostly lasting hope for the Bestest New Year evah!

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire
