Free Child’s Booster Seats Available

Hannifan Real Estate Brokerage supports

Community with Child Car Seat Donation

SEDONA AZ – Car crashes remain the number one killer of children ages 3-14 in the United States.  A properly installed car seat can prevent or reduce injury in the event of a car crash yet Four out of Five car seats are installed incorrectly. To help make a difference in our community with child safety, Jo and Kerry Hannifan, owners of Hannifan Real Estate Brokerage in the Village of Oak Creek donated twenty-four child booster car safety seats to the Sedona Fire District.

“Too many children go directly from sitting in a child’s car seat to sitting like an adult.” stated Deputy Fire Marshal Gary Johnson, “The problem is that without the use of a booster seat the child does not fit in the seat correctly and the seat belt does not fit the child properly as it does for an adult.”

When your child’s weight exceeds the rated weight capacity of a child’s car seat, usually at 40 pounds, it is time to correctly secure your children in a booster seat or other appropriate child restraint until the adult lap and shoulder safety belts fit correctly. For most children it is when they are approximately 4’9” tall and 80-100 pounds, usually between the ages of 8 and 12 years.

The Sedona Fire District has three certified child car seat technicians that will inspect your child’s car seat at no cost. Call 282-6800 to schedule an appointment, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
