Folksville USA Thanks Prescott and Flagstaff ADOT Districts

Sedona AZ (June 7, 2013)I would like to thank the Prescott Maintenance Department for its recent mowing of the shoulders of Highway 260 between Cottonwood MP-207 and Camp Verde MP-228.

I would also like to thank the Flagstaff and Prescott Maintenance Departments for removing several large items on State Highway 89A and State Highway 260 over the past several weeks. The Flagstaff ADOT District started cutting back large bushes last fall between Sedona and Cottonwood on State Highway 89A and said the project will be completed after the winter highway issues subside. The removal of these oversized bushes removes a liability issue that occurred several years ago when a drunk driver hit one, so I’ve been informed.

The recent mowing and future mowing of our highways will benefit ADOT Adopt-A-Highway groups, motorists attending to emergency needs, decrease fire risks and make our communities more appealing to visitors, residents and businesses that may bring employment opportunities.

I hope that the ADOT Prescott District will consider mowing the two miles of median between MP-209 and MP-211 and the shoulder of Mickles Custom Homes section on Highway 260. The shoulders and medians of Highway 89A will benefit from mowing for the same reasons as State Highway 260.

The 22 Highway 260 Adopt-A-Highway groups are:

Mickles Custom Homes MP 89A-207, Verde Village Property Owners Association MP 207–208, Verde Village Property Owners Association MP 208–209, Cottonwood Wal-Mart Associates MP 209–210, Clarkdale Verde Kiwanis MP 210–211, Faith Lutheran Church MP 211–212, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department MP 212-213, Available MP 213-214, American Legion Family Post #25 MP 214-215, Verde Valley Rotary MP 215-216, MUHS Marauders Wrestling Team MP 216-217, Highlands Resort at Verde Ridge MP 217-218, Camp Verde Fire District MP 218-219, American Legion Family Post #93 MP 219-220, Friends of Coy Hughes MP 220-221, Available MP 221-222, Boy Scout Troop 7193 MP 222-223, Verde Marshall’s Office MP 223-224, Copper Canyon Academy MP 224-225, Verde Valley Archaeology Center MP 225-226, Clear Creek RV Park MP 226-227 and Available MP 227-228.

The above mentioned groups are being promoted as the best Adopt-A-Highway groups in Arizona and the nation.

These groups will be part of an Arizona, statewide, 50 group, 50 mile and 50 states effort to restore the beauty to “America & Arizona the Beautiful” that will connect Arizona towns and cities Jerome, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Sedona, Camp Verde, and the nation.

It is our hope that all 50 one-mile sections will be adopted and become part of the ADOT Adopt-A-Highway program. If every community and its residents would consider being part of the “America & Arizona the Beautiful” efforts, we will energize the Arizona’s taxpayer funded Adopt-A-Highway program and become the “Gold Standard” for Arizona and the nation to follow.

What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve!

  3. I have noticed that our highways are being cleaned of litter on a regular basis and want to express my gratitude to those that are involved in the process. This is an endless job, but one that needs to be done to keep the respect for the beauty of our area.

I would also like to express my disdain for those that litter without regard to the consequences of their actions; it would probably be good to have concerned citizens turn in the license plates of those offenders to local law enforcement.

A special thanks to Gary Chamberlain from Folksville USA for all of his hard work and organizing.

    Sincerely,
