Flagstaff Area Neighborhood Watch Meetings Scheduled

Coconino County Sheriff BadgeFlagstaff AZ (May 30, 2013)Coconino County Sheriff Bill Pribil and Coconino County Supervisor Liz Archuleta invite residents of the Timberline, Fernwood and Dooney Park communities to the monthly Neighborhood Watch meeting on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. The meeting will be held from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at the Summit Fire Station #33, 6050 East Firehouse Lane, off of North Highway 89.

Sheriff Pribil and members of his staff will be at the meeting to encourage continued neighborhood participation and to share information.

During the Watch meeting, Peaks View County Park Development will address residents and ask for public input while county Parks and Recreation discusses the wants and needs of the Doney Park -Timberline neighborhood for its Peaks View park.

Parks and Recreation director Judy Weiss is encouraging everyone in the community to be heard. “We are asking residents what new features or recreational amenities they would like to see in the park,” she explained. “There are several opportunities for residents to express their views.”

A Coconino County park, Peaks View is located at 8805 North Koch Field, Flagstaff, Arizona 86004, and features an artificial turf soccer/softball field, playground, restrooms, two picnic armadas, walking trail, and bridle path.

Residents unable to attend the June 4 meeting may send input by email to parksrec@coconino.az.gov and or engage in an online community discussion through the County’s Community Voice website at az-coconinocounty.civicplus.com/communityvoice.

The next phase of developing Parks View is one of the projects identified and funded by the Coconino Parks and Open Space Program (CPOS), a sales tax initiative approved by the Coconino County voters in 2002. The park project’s budget is $500,917.

Neighborhood Watch is similar to the Block Watch program commonly conducted in urban areas, and goes back to the concept of “neighbors looking out for neighbors” that many people remember from thirty years ago. It is one of the most effective ways to prevent and deter criminal activity, attend to home and personal security, address the safety of our children and the elderly, and to alleviate fear and isolation. Residents learn how to observe and report suspicious activity and reduce the risk of becoming a crime victim.
