Fire Chief Selection Committee Adjourns to Sedona Resort

Dear Sedona Eye Editor,

The SFD Governing Board has adjourned into Executive Session many times during the last few months.  Yet even the Board, with all its secret stuff going on behind closed doors — stuff to which the public is not so privileged to witness — manages Executive Sessions in the ever-available meeting room at Station #1, bearing no public expense.

Not so, for the Sedona Fire Chief Selection Committee.

After the public portion of their January 11, 2012 Agenda, the Committee voted to adjourn to Executive Session in a conference room at the Sedona Rouge Resort and Spa — to the tune of $130.00 for three hours — pre-announced on their published Agenda and paid by the taxpayer.

Resulting in two questions:

1)  If the Committee is required by Statute to vote for adjournment into Executive Session, how could they possibly have made a reservation at Sedona Rouge without first knowing how that “vote” would turn out?  They could NOT of course, unless they blatantly violated Arizona Statute; and

2)  By whose “fiscally responsible” authority, was such an outrageous, unconscionable and egregious waste of public monies, permitted?

So far as the public knows, items D and E on the published meeting Agenda failed to take place as the Committee never reconvened into public session.  That lack of adherence to Statute and consideration toward a public they purportedly serve is sadly, ever commonplace within this Governing Board and its appointed committees.  We await completion of the meeting.

The upcoming Special Election will give all residents in the Sedona Fire District an opportunity to redefine their priorities and elect persons who more suitably reflect their own sense of right and wrong.  I trust the majority of taxpayers will recognize the folly currently being perpetrated against their principals and vote accordingly.

Respectfully submitted,

Wendy V. Tanzer, Sedona AZ

Reading the Homeowner Revolt story and knowing people like that man and some of the ones commenting are but to drive me crazy. This is SEDONA and a nicer spot on earth does not exist.

Thank you for bringing to our family voters attention the dishonorable actions of the current fire board, Ms. Tanzer.

Three of us plan to vote against those seated in the last election. This meeting at the Sedona Rouge is the final slap to this District tax payer. NO MAS!
