Eye on Sedona Parks and Recreation Spring Programs

sedonacitySedona AZ (March 9, 2011) Look to your local Sedona Parks and Recreation Department for great events in the spring of 2011! Cool breezes and warmer weather are inviting us outside into the sunshine and Sedona offers beautiful City parks for your springtime enjoyment. In April, the Department of Parks and Recreation will feature back-to-back quality events for families and folks of all ages. Updated daily, find the Park and Rec events listed on the SedonaEye.com Calendar of Events.

A free Sedona Earth Day Celebration and Concert in the Park will take place on Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road. The multi-use field at Posse Grounds Park will be packed with earth conscious vendors, food on the grill, and, new this year, a concert during the entire event featuring a local band. Exhibitor booths will be interactive and interesting for younger participants. Parks and Recreation will offer goodie bags for children who successfully fill in Vendor Passports, and information will be available for those interested in recycling, earth friendly products, gardening and more from local businesses and organizations.

April also features the annual Celebration of Spring event for families also at Posse Grounds Park.  The 2011 Celebration of Spring is held the Saturday before Easter, April 23, from 9 a.m. until Noon. Arrive early to purchase your $2 children’s admission tickets, or buy tickets in advance at the Parks and Recreation office at City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive, west Sedona.  Children will enjoy inflatable games, face painting, pony rides, petting zoo, hayrides and, new this year, a few carnival rides! At 10:00 o’clock in the morning, the Easter egg hunt will begin for children 0-8 years old with children divided into age groups (0-2, 3-5, 6-8). Not to worry, Parks and Recreation has plenty for the over eight year old crowd! Beginning also at 10:00 a.m., children 9-12 years of age are welcome to join others in a scavenger hunt around the park with prizes for participants. As a special treat, the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Arizona will be cooking up great food for everyone to enjoy!
