Democrats of the Red Rocks Host Forum

dorrSedona AZ (May 31, 2013) – What is the State of the State?

If you prefer to listen and discuss a Democratic party perspective, join the Democrats of the Red Rocks for a free forum and open discussion about the state of Education, Environment and Health care on Sunday afternoon, June 9, 2013.

Moderated by Mike Cosantino and Steve Williamson, the afternoon forum will feature Arizona State Senator Katie Hobbs (District 24), Arizona State Representatives Martin Quezada and Jamescita Peshlaki (D-24), and Stefanie Mach (D-10).

AZ State Representative Peshlaki (D24)

Hobbs, from Phoenix, is serving her first term in the Arizona Senate after serving one term as a state Representative. Since 1992, she has worked as a professional social worker in the areas of domestic violence, behavioral health, and homelessness. Currently, she is the Executive Director of Emerge Arizona, a political training program for Democratic women.

Quezada has been a community activist for several years and serves on numerous boards and commissions, including ASU Los Diablos Latino Alumni Association and the Los Abogados Hispanic Bar Association. In 2009, he opened a private law practice and was named by the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as a top Hispanic leader under age forty. Quezada was appointed to the Arizona House in March 2012 by Governor Jan Brewer to fill a vacancy.

Peshlaki, of Cameron, is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, born in Tuba City to the Redhouse Clan. As a young woman, she served in the U.S. Army and overseas in the Persian Gulf War. Recognizing the service of veterans and all those in uniform as significant, she is a member of the Flagstaff American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Page. Believing her voice a different voice in the State House, as one who understands the District 24 diversity of native and non-native Americans, Peshlaki wants to bridge the gap between these communities, two cultures living side by side, with compassion and diplomacy.

The Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley is located at State Highway 179 and Meadowlark Drive, Sedona (just south of Chapel roundabout).
