Dear Harley McGuire my heart beats fast for you

Sedona AZ (November 8, 2010) – The following is a fan letter sent to Harley McGuire, SedonaEye.com star pet columnist, from a very pretty four paws up lady:

Hello There Harley!

Sadie

I saw Sabrina’s letter and I am truly jealous!

When I saw your cute little face, those eyes I knew that it was love at first sight. I have never felt that way before… I hope that you don’t rush into a relationship without giving me a chance.

I have been told that I am very loving and quite attractive. Some have said that to know me is to love me. So please give me a chance… perhaps we can meet at the dog park, on a day you are not busy with Sabrina, at a bench on top of the other hill.

I will bring the treats!

My heart is beating so fast just thinking about our rendezvous!

Sadie

Hey Max and Tootsie, would you happen to have any questions for me to answer? For example, which area park is my preference for a rendezvous . . . oops, unless, of course, you’re already a couple. If that’s the case, thanks for writing anyways. I’d still be interested in hanging out sometime.

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire

Oh, Sadie, my heart be still. I’m so confused at the moment but I must thank you for taking my mind off of today’s dreadful ordeal of being brushed and having my hair trimmed. Mother is so mean. I hate it when she messes with the pads on my toes. It tickles and I try to bite her and she gets real, real cross. Do you have a cruel mother, too?

Hey, how about we meet at that park in the Village of Oak Creek? It has nice green grass. I wouldn’t want for you to be jealous though because there’s a champagne poodle named Princess that digs me too. You make the call, pretty Sadie. If I were a kitty-cat I’d be purring. Here’s another side of me. Hope you find it as appealing as my face.

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire

    Harley,

Getting your reply made me blush all over and I am still feeling giddy…you little rascal you! You sure know how to get to a lady’s heart…

I look forward to having our first date at the park in the VOC next to Mulligans, but you need to promise me that when we meet there is no mention of Sabrina or Princess. It will be just you and me…and let nature take it’s course!

    Pleasant dreams my dear prince,

    Sadie

Oh Harley, You stole My heart, and now I find out You’re a gigolo running around with those little furry tarts. Well, I guess I found out in time, because I was at the creek today where I met a big hunk of a Golden Setter named Jack.
He’s big and strong, a swimming athlete, and loves My one blue eye.

We’re Over Harley, and I’m moving on.

Sabrina, I’m somewhat crushed but not totally devastated since you obviously haven’t much depth because you frivolously cast me off for another so quickly. Guess there was a good reason for Sadie to have entered the scene when she did. Best of luck to you and Jack. Better him than me.

    Lovingly (anyway),
    Harley McGuire

  7. Harley McGuire says:

Well, Sadie, if you read my message to Sabrina you are aware she’s no longer a concern for you. My mother generally takes me to the park between three and four in the afternoon on days when it isn’t raining. I hate getting my feet wet. I appreciate you more than ever at the moment after what fickle Sabrina did and I don’t care that I didn’t spell her name correctly.

    Sadie, you are my princess.

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire

    My dear stud muffin,

Before we meet for the first time at the park, I would like to tell you a bit about myself. Just like you I was also adopted from a rescue society. You see, my mom and dad were really looking for a Bichon Frise, so they called the Bichon Frise rescue society near San Diego. One of their volunteers was looking to save a Bichon and saw me in the animal shelter. I had only one day left before they were going to put me to sleep. This lady saved my life and took me home, fed me, gave me a bath, took me to the vet and let me stay with her. While I was there, I lived with several Bichons who were ready for adoption. One day, my parents called and asked if they could adopt a Bichon. At the time, they had a small cat and they wanted to make sure that they could find one who got along with cats. Unfortunately, none of them did…except for me. The lady asked my mom if she would be interested in a Cockapoo and at the time my mom never heard of a dog that was mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle…I guess that’s why they call them Cockapoos.

I remember seeing my parents for the first time when they came into the room of the lady’s house. My heart was beating so hard because I was hoping so much that these people would adopt me and become my forever parents. You see, I was tired of being an orphan wondering the streets looking for scrap food in dark alleys. I was tired of being abused by people who didn’t like to be around dogs. As I was wandering the lonely streets, I had a dream that someday, I would find a home where I could be treated decently and be given the love that I never had. Are these people going to be the ones? I remember when they sat down on the couch and called my name. I jumped on the lady’s lap and gave her lots of kisses. I looked into her eyes and I saw tears coming down. We were both crying because she and I knew that it was love at first sight. She hugged me hard, kept on patting me and I kept giving her lots of kisses. I now knew that my dream had come true and that I finally found my forever mommy. By the way, my new dad was crying too…

I need to stop now, my dear prince because my tears make it impossible for me to write. I will continue this story another time, but rest assured that the rest of it is far happier…

    Lovingly,

    Sadie

  9. Harley McGuire says:

Sadie, you are an angel. My paws are dampened with tears and I don’t even mind that they are wettened. Your story is one with a happy ending, but thinking of the many critters, and I say that with deep affection, who aren’t as lucky as the two of us makes my heart ache. God bless animal rescue places, including our local Humane Societies; and curse those who use and abuse helpless animals.

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire

  10. Sadie says:

You are so right, Harley! We are definitely very lucky because there are people who care and who step up to the plate (or in our case, the feeding bowl…) and do their part to save critters like us. It is because of these volunteers that most of us are here to tell our stories. As you mentioned, you find them in rescue organizations and our local Humane Societies. It is their true love for us furry creatures and their dedication that makes it all possible. If by way of this column, you and I can reach more people to help and get involved with these organizations, we will be able to multiply the blessings that we have both received. Perhaps with our efforts, more Harleys and Sadies will have their lives spared and given a chance to live a happy, productive life with people who genuinely love and care for them. It happened to us…why not them?

Some other day, I will tell you the rest of my story, as well as how, after I was adopted, I got two brothers who were also rescued by my forever parents. Guess what? We all sleep together cuddled up next to them on their king size bed and dream about the good life we have…realizing that there is a doggie heaven after all!

    Thinking of you,

    Sadie

  11. Sadie says:

    My dearest Harley,

An idea just popped into my head…How about if your mom contacts the various rescue societies in our immediate area and suggests that some of our furry friends write letters to your column and say something about themselves. I am pretty sure that there are other forever parents, waiting to adopt some of our brothers and sisters ,who might read their letters. Wouldn’t it be great if you could help them find a permanent home?

I would be so proud of you, my little stud muffin!

    Sadie
