Dear Harley McGuire It’s Me Dominic

Dominic

Sedona AZ (October 12, 2012) Harley McGuire, SedonaEye.com Paws Up columnist, loves getting mail from his pals since he isn’t allowed to drive a car or go off leash. Here’s a letter that the office gopher delivered to Harley’s inbox today:

Hi Harley,

I am Dominic, Hudson’s daddy; but unfortunately he doesn’t know it and that’s why he thinks he is the boss of all of us!

My human parents adopted me a couple of years after Hudson found a home with them and had joined Sadie. My human parents kept in contact with my breeders, and when they found out I was ready for adoption, they flew me and Hudson’s mom (Annie) out from Ohio. Boy, was that a scary flight! For the first time in our lives, Annie and I flew for many hours inside the belly of an infernal machine they call an airplane.

We thought that trip would NEVER end. When Annie and I landed, we were SOOO scared that we were afraid to come out of our cages. After a long while, I got used to being around my new family. Annie, on the other hand, was always scared.

One day a neighbor of our human parents came by to visit and Annie jumped into her lap and didn’t want to leave her! Annie went home with her for a visit and sleep-over with Buffy (who became her new adopted sister) and…she never came back. Annie was so happy being there, she turned out to be a good company not only to Buffy, but their human parents as well.

Harley, my friend, this turned out to be a win-win situation for all.

A couple of years later, my human mom was able to get a service dog and his name is Inoch. At first, I was afraid of him because he was the biggest dog I had EVER seen.

I soon realized that Inoch is a gentle giant and now we are best friends. In fact, he is my big brother who protects me from Hudson, my ungrateful son. Everybody says that we are an odd couple…Inoch is the largest and I am the smallest in the canine family. But we get along GREAT…we do everything together…I follow him and he follows me all the time. In fact, often I try to sneak out with Inoch when he goes to work with mom, but she catches me… all the time…what a bummer!:(

Inoch is my best friend (besides my human daddy) and my big brother. Here is a picture of Inoch and me sharing the same bed, while relaxing outside on a nice summer day.

Your buddy,

Dominic, Inoch’s brother and good friend.

  1. Yes siree Dominic, indeed you told a happy story. We are very lucky pooches. When I was adopted from that place in Texas my new mommy paid for me to fly to Arizona. But because I’m sort of little I flew with another temporary foster mother so didn’t have to do that horrible thing that happened to you and Annie . . . down in the belly of that big flying machine.

Guess you don’t know but Mother met up with Inoch and your human mom one day in a local supermarket and Inoch planted a big wet one on Mom’s face. Someplace there’s a picture of that event so I know it’s true.

Enjoy your happy life. As Medicine Wise Wings says: “Remember my children, be grateful for all that you have.” Maybe someday I can show you Medicine Wise Wings. He’s a cool bird!

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire
