Dear Editor: SFD Slate and Theft of Signs

I do agree with the paraphrased old adage “show me your friends and I’ll know you” but somehow, even though this Slate may have said things which are questionable, this old adage is not appropriate to judge the three members.

If we are children, then yes to look at our friends is an indicator of our present and possible future path. The sign thieves, however, are adults and therefore personally responsible for their own behavior, decisions and actions. The Slate is not responsible for the behavior, decisions and actions of those who support or do not support them.

Just as McDonald’s responsibility should end with serving hot coffee and not extend to how it’s sipped or spilled, the Slate is not responsible for others who steal signs UNLESS IT WAS ORDERED BY AND OR IGNORED BY THE SLATE. The quality of the Slate will be whether they pick up a phone, call the other opponents and apologize on behalf of zealots acting inappropriately, giving no support LOUDLY to this behavior. Morals and ethics are individual and thus a personal responsibility and should be personally accountable.

Let’s keep the mud on the ground. The culprits are disgusting anti-Americans and let’s make sure they are prosecuted fully. Anyone who violates a basic civil right such as voting in a democratic election (which sign stealer’s do) deserves no leniency. NONE.

I think the slate is responsible for the actions of their most ardent supporters. I think they had to of known about the sign thefts as it has been well publicized. The mud left the ground along time ago when the Erick, Blauert, Demme slate began to attack the firefighters and the fire chief personally. No leniency for Mr. Johnson for sure but hold the people who want to disrupt our emergency services accountable for the sad state we will all find ourselves in if they win the election.

  2. Carol Gandolfo says:

It is my understanding from several sources, that the owner of this property asked this individual to remove those signs. Someone should check into this before the fur starts flying and find out the truth. Novel concept. Check the facts before accusing.

  3. m allen says:

    Ms. Gandolfo,

I know for a fact that Mr. Johnson did NOT have permssion to remove the signs. I know this because I know the land owners and the property manager. Iam sure that you were told by the Erick, Blauert, Demme supporters that he had permission, but like the rest of that slates information and “facts” it is wrong.

  4. Doug says:

    Mrs. Gandolfo,

I understand you position. However, as one of the leaders of the local Republican Party, I now take your comments with a grain of salt after your last Shenanigans . As a registered Republican, I find it disgusting that your organization refused to let the candidates from the Fitzpatrick, Fishel and Montgomery slate speak at your last luncheon held @ Los Abrigados, even though Blauert, Demme and Erick all received invitations and allotted times to address the attendees. You refused even though two of these members are also registered Republicans. How is this a Democratic process and how do you not now have an agenda of your own? It is shameful that individuals like you end up in positions of power and are able to influence others based on your personal connections. I too, am not a huge supporter of Unions however, after doing my own research on the FACTS and finding out the truth as you suggested in your prior post, I have found that the local Firefighters Union is more of an association of members that is out for the betterment of our community. As a Republican, I am sure you are well aware that the Firefighter’s State Union , as well as local association is also backing John McCain for his senate seat. They are giving back to our community daily in the form of charity, benefit dinners, bike rodeos for children, car seat programs, little league, pop-Warner football and high school athletics. If you and your cronies continue your mission to destroy them, you will have a hand in their decreased level of involvement in our community. Is your personal mission to save ten dollars on your tax bill worth that? Thank you and have a good day!

P.S. Mr. Johnson was caught Red Handed and is guilty of theft in my eyes and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by law. This too is a disgusting act and he should be held accountable. If the property owner did not want the signs there, he should have called the city, police or taken them down himself. However, I doubt this is the case as I believe the owner’s son may be a firefighter himself. Maybe you should find the truth prior to speaking and spreading misinformation. Or maybe these lies are your way of attempting to influence others as David Blauert, Phylis Erick, Joe Demme, Lowell Johnson, Charles Christensen, Donald Harr, David Zirinski, David Norton and Craig Dible have been doing for the past 2 years?

  5. KAREN says:

I don’t know who your “several sources” are, but they are sadly misinformed. Mr. Stevenson, the owner of Real Estate Central property, has personally given his permission for the Signs that were being removed right on camera. We are proud that the “Integrity Matters” slate lives up to their slogan. They would not have reported Mr. Johnson’s actions to the Sheriff and Police departments, had we been posting the signs illegally,

In other words, the facts have been checked long ago and the fur is only flying because Mr. Johnson began taking it on himself to remove our signs without permission to do so.

  6. Phil says:

That is indeed VERY strange because I understand that the owner has given specific permissions for those signs to be placed on his property. That’s why the signs removed by Mr. Johnson were replaced soon after the theft. I suggest that you get your facts straight before assuming that what you were told is indeed correct. Novel concept. Check your facts before you come to someone defense.

  7. Tom Longo says:

On October 20th Garrett Cornelius Hughes Jr., while commenting on SFD Slate and Theft of Signs said:
The quality of the Slate will be whether they pick up a phone, call the other opponents and apologize on behalf of zealots acting inappropriately, giving no support LOUDLY to this behavior.”

It has been 10 days now and from what I understand, that call never came and one must assume that the opposition were Co-conspirators with the actions taken by Mr. Lowell Johnson.

To quote Mr. Hughes, “The culprits are disgusting anti-Americans and let’s make sure they are prosecuted fully. Anyone who violates a basic civil right such as voting in a democratic election (which sign stealer’s do) deserves no leniency. NONE.”

As voters, we can make sure that these type of individuals DO NOT get elected on November 2nd!
