Dear Friend, Thank you for your interest, support and input regarding H.R. 4823, the Sedona-Red Rock National Scenic Area Act. I write with a legislative update. We recently made significant progress in moving forward with the National Scenic Area designation in Sedona. Earlier this year, I introduced H.R. 4823 to promote economic development and protect valuable natural resources in Sedona and surrounding communities. This is a legislative effort that I have been working on since before my term began and have been pushing in Washington for months. Following a hearing by the Subcommittee on National Parks and Forests, the House Committee on Natural Resources voted to move the bill forward to the House of Representatives. The Committee incorporated a few amendments– to make technical changes and to explicitly allow necessary road and water projects within the proposed designation area–without opposition. I will continue to reach out and across the aisle to encourage my colleagues to join me in voting for the National Scenic Area designation for Sedona. After years of hard work, we are even closer to getting a good bill signed into law that will ensure continued tourism to Sedona and economic opportunities for area small businesses. Thank you for your interest, input and support throughout this process. Please do not hesitate to contact my office at (928) 445-3434 if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely,
Ann Kirkpatrick Member of Congress
