Dear Editor Help Save the NSA Vote

Sedona AZ (September 23, 2010) – The SedonaEye.com received this Letter to the Editor regarding pending HR 4823 in the United States Congress sponsored by Arizona Democratic Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, CD-1:

Dear Members and Friends!  URGENT REQUEST TO HELP SAVE THE NSA BILL

Yesterday, the NSA Designation (HR 4823) was debated on the floor of the House of Congress, under rules of suspension.  This was the only way our Congressional Representative, Ann Kirkpatrick, would have been able to move the Bill within the timeframe of this Congress.  If the Bill does not move before the end of this Congress, it dies and the whole process has to be re-started.  Under the rules of suspension, non-controversial bills can be debated with restricted discussion time and need to be passed by a two-thirds majority.  Ann, together with support from the NSA Coalition, has set out from the start to show that this Bill had vast bipartisan support.  It was hoped that the Bill, already passed unanimously out of committee, would be able to get the support it needed to pass.  All was well, until yesterday evening when the Republicans requested a postponement of vote so that a full recorded vote could be taken.  This can happen anytime now (today or tomorrow).  At the same time, the Republican Leadership has asked its membership to vote against the Bill – to kill it.

I am asking each and every one of you to pick up your phone and call at least one of the following Republican Congressional Representatives in neighboring states and urge them to support this bi-partisan effort here in Sedona and the surrounding areas to protect the wonder of the Red Rocks.  Let them know that we have been fighting for years to get an NSA Designation which would just do that – stop land exchanges within the National Forest Area!  Tell them that it does NOT affect private lands and is just making permanent what already exists in the current National Forest Management Plan.  Such a designation will encourage tourism and will help the economy of Sedona and the surroundings area.

Here is the list.  I hope you can take a few moments today or early tomorrow and call some of these Republican Representatives.

Thank you,

Marlene Rayner

I have called both of my Senators, again. I have expressed my reasons for their NO vote to the passage of NSA Designation (HR 4823). We don’t need any more Federal Govenment management of anything in our lives!
I am confident that HR- 4823 will die, and hopefully have a stake thought it’s heart.
