Dear Editor: Good Morning Arizona Democrats

Dear Sedona Eye editor,

Good morning Arizona Democrats! I am working on a special project to raise $20,000 to complete the Recall Senate President Russell Pearce Campaign and would greatly appreciate your assistance in contributing and/or identifying additional donors to this time-sensitive project. At this time, Arizona is fighting for a better direction and we would like to share with you a project that will directly impact and address the concerns of those in Arizona and in the United States.

On January 31, 2011, Citizens for a Better Arizona launched the Recall Senate President Russell Pearce Campaign, designed to withdraw Senator Russell Pearce’s eligibility in an elected position. Within ten days the field operation has collected over 800 petitions and needs to reach a minimum of 8000 in 120 days.

During the program’s inception, the operation successfully identified the interest of several community leaders. The success of this campaign will enable Arizona to move forward and the United States to build a productive dialogue in addressing immigration policy.

Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce is widely known for sponsoring legislation seeking to prevent illegal immigration.

As an elected official, he served as the lead sponsor of Arizona SB 1070 invoking the strictest anti-illegal immigration measure, sponsored Arizona SB 1097 seeking to quantify the impact of illegal immigrants on the state’s educational system, and most recently, proposed legislation to deny US citizenship to children born in this country to illegal immigrants.

Since 2004, the tactics utilized by Senator Pearce have exploited the politics of fear, hate, and division in order to champion bills and policies highly controversial and detrimental to Arizona and the United States.

The Citizens for a Better Arizona is a political recall committee of concerned citizens to improve leadership and focus on accountability of elected leaders. This time-sensitive project requests the support of all citizens to raise $20,000 or more to strengthen the campaign’s operation on or before Sunday, February 20th.

Contributions can be made to Citizens for a Better Arizona, P.O. Box 41232, Mesa, AZ, 85274-1232.

We must work closely with Arizona to demonstrate our concerns with immigration and the need for good leadership. If you have any questions at all do not hesitate to call (623)533-1544.

Thank you so very much.

Sincerely,

Bill Moran

I say publicly and call on others to do so; You Sir, Mr. Moran, do NOT speak for the majority of Arizona Democrats. You’re out of touch with AZDEMS opinions regarding the illegal immigration issue. AZ cannot continue to avoid addressing this economic and social drain on our society. While I’m not a fan of Mr. Pearce, and would never vote for him, he was elected and that election will be overturned or affirmed by the next vote scheduled. Recalls are a waste of time=effort=resources except in the most unusual of circumstances. This is not one of them. We shouldn’t be pressured or asked based on Party affiliation (??) when in fact, NO one should fund YOUR personal agenda, or the personal agendas of an unknown few. Fund it yourself, Mr. Moran. Put your own money on the line for your actions. Thank you Sedona Times for the opportunity to express all points of view even when I am in agreement or disagreement. Civil discourse is American. Keep it up.

    Amen!

  3. Tom H. says:

Well said VOC. Posturing is intellectually dishonest. Wise up Moran.

  4. J. Rick Normand says:

    Dear Mr. Moran,

How long have you been a resident of the State of Arizona? Do you understand that in Maricopa County, Pearce was elected with a pretty good sized majority and remains very popular. Do you understand that in Sedona anti-SB1070 proponents are a small vocal group? In fact, anti-SB1070 proponents, who represent a small minority in the Verde Valley, represent only 23% of the state’s voters…and that number is shrinking. Apparently Mr. Moran, you don’t even understand what state you live in. I’m with VOC Dem. It’s always progressives like you who want other people to waste their money promoting your causes. If you are so passionate about your cause why don’t you have the courage to spend your own money on a truly poor investment? Or, is it possible you can’t come up with that small sum of money because you live off government handouts?

  5. J. Rick Normand says:

    P.S. Mr. Moran,

It will cost far more than $20,000 to generate a recall petition and election against a state senator. Nevertheless, if you could succeed in recalling Senator Pearce, then you would also have to recall Senators Smith, Biggs and Allen who stand right behind Pearce. Between the state Senate and House you have a super majority of Republicans and supporters of SB 1070 and six more soon-to-come related bills. Wise up Mr. Moran…you really don’t have any idea what you’re trying to do much less what it will cost.
