Dear Editor: Benefit for Whitney Allred and Jordan Rhode

Black Friday was dark and windy and for Whitney Allred and Jordan Rhode, it was a terrible yet miraculous morning. After a Thanksgiving dinner with Jordan’s family in the Phoenix area, the young couple set out to the mall for midnight shopping. After several stores and gifts for loved ones, the two started heading back up to Sedona around 4 a.m. with Jordan at the wheel, completely sober and blissfully in love with his “pooh bear.” The two talked about forever and plans for the future as Whitney curled up on the passenger’s side to sleep before having to work at 10 a.m. at Urban Gypsies store in West Sedona.

Around Cordes Junction, a strong cross wind blew their Tahoe abruptly; the wheels hit the graded part of the road. Jordan over compensated and went into a skid that sent them into a roll. The Tahoe flipped several times and Whitney was thrown from the car, and though Jordan was badly hurt he fought to stay conscious and crawled out to find his love. He could hear her cries but it was cold and dark and he couldn’t find her but as shock set in, help arrived. Luckily there was a driver in front of them that saw their headlights moving in a circular motion and had called 911. The helicopters were there quickly, and both were flown to John C Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix.

Jordan is bruised and battered but will be fine externally. His heart is, of course, shattered. Whitney was not as fortunate; her leg is badly broken, her pelvis and clavicle are broken and her left side of her face was badly injured. Plastic surgery has already made amazing improvements, and her beautiful smile and loving eyes are glowing with fire.

Whitney is the sweetest most darling little spit fire ever. Her laugh and sparkle are enjoyed by many Gypsy shoppers. You cannot help but love her the minute you meet her which is exactly what happened when Jordan laid eyes on her just a few months ago.

“We wished for the perfect girl for me, my family and I would talk about how she would look, what she would be like and how we would be together forever…Whitney is exactly everything we asked for…” said Jordan.

Young love is fleeting most of the time, however, if you meet these two you will see the determination of not just love, but everlasting partnership. Since the accident Jordan has been by Whitney’s side along with her amazing family from Cottonwood, Sedona and the Valley. She is surrounded by abundant love and her healing has begun. When asked several questions like what month is it, who’s the president and where are you, Whitney replied…Mexico? Hawaii?

When Jordan first spoke to her in the ICU he asked her “Do you know who I am?” and she replied…”Just kiss me already!”

A celebration of life is being planned for Sunday, December 19th  from 11-4 p.m. at Urban Gypsies store. Several donations will be raffled and there will be a silent auction along with food, entertainment and shopping proceeds to benefit the two families in need. If you are interested in donating money, services, items for auction and or time, please contact Shelly at urbangypsiesaz@gmail.com.

Bank of America has an account available for donations. All proceeds will go to the family’s bills in this time of need.

Remember…there are three things that last forever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of them all is love.”
