Sedona AZ (August 18, 2013)The board of directors of Adult Care Services, Inc. (ACS), Adult Day Care Services, Inc. (ADCS) and Yvonne Napolitano, Executive Director, are excited to announce the recent purchase of a building in Cottonwood to open a third Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center (SJRC.)

The property, the former Mingus Center, located at 636 North Main Street in Old Town Cottonwood, was acquired August 7.

“This day center has long been coming since Cottonwood has been without a day center since approximately 2006,” said Ms. Napolitano. “At that time approximately 30 individuals were served daily and it was disheartening to us that we were not in the position to assist in keeping the Eden Center adult day program open which ACS had a hand in initially starting. Since then, ACS has received ongoing calls from families and professionals to bring back quality services to that area.”

In February 2013, the Prescott Valley SJRC started a van route to and from the Verde Valley to support people in the interim. The VA is an active referral source and, in the early stage of the Mingus Center purchase process, a Veterans Administration safety inspection was performed. The VA agreed that the building was an ideal fit for another SJRC.

“Health care entities such as Verde Valley Medical Center, hospices, the VA, Alzheimer’s and NACOG agencies support our endeavors and know the value that an adult day service program can bring to a population of approximately 50,000 in that area,” explained Ms. Napolitano.

The building remodel to meet the Arizona Department of Health Services licensing code will begin September 2013 . It will be an extensive project to include windows, doors with alarm system, bathrooms, flooring, and reconfiguration of walls, ceiling upgrades, fixtures, commercial kitchen and a fire suppression system for the 11,000 sq. ft. day care center. The remaining 4,000 sq. ft. of building will be leased. Napolitano expects a compatible health care company or child care center to lease the space.

The SJRC opening is planned for early January 2014. In the meantime, people from the Cottonwood and the Verde Valley area are encouraged to register for services at the Prescott Valley SJRC.

The new Cottonwood SJRC program will mimic operations of SJRC Prescott and Prescott Valley including transportation services. ADCS is the only organization in Yavapai County licensed to offer day services for adults with varying disabilities including dementia, physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities, and the frail elderly.
