Collision Kills Motorcyclist

Sedona AZ (January 22, 2014) – The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an adult male motorcycle rider after his bike hit a pole today at 1:48 p.m. in Flagstaff, Arizona. The first emergency responder to arrive on scene was an Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer who immediately administered C.P.R. to the victim. The officer was assisted by members of Summit Fire District and medics with Guardian Medical Transport but the motorcyclist died at the scene.

According to witness statements and physical evidence, investigators believe the motorcycle operator was driving west bound on Townsend Winona Road when, for unknown reasons, he left the west bound lane and crossed over the east bound lane before leaving the road surface. The motorcycle became airborne and struck a utility pole guide wire causing the pole to snap into two pieces. Investigators will determine if speed was a factor in this fatal collision.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification. This investigation is ongoing.

The Arizona Public Service Company responded and replaced the downed pole and repaired the downed power lines.
