Coconino NF to sell limited number of Christmas tree permits

coconino national forestSedona AZ (November 4, 2015) – Coconino National Forest will be selling a limited number of Christmas tree permits to the public beginning November 20, 2015, that will be good for cutting in a specific area of the Mogollon Rim Ranger District.

The Coconino NF will have a total 600 permits available at $15 each, which can be paid for by cash, credit card, or personal check. The permits will be issued one per household and are first-come, first-served until sold out. Permits typically are sold out by the first week of December, so the public is encouraged to purchase their permit as soon as possible after November 20.

As part of the Every Kid in a Park initiative, every fourth grader is eligible to receive a free Christmas tree permit—while supplies last—and upon presenting a valid Fourth Grade Pass. The fourth grader must be present at time of receiving the Christmas tree permit. For more information about this initiative and how to obtain a pass, please visit Every Kid in a Park program website.

Permits will be sold over-the-counter (phone and mail orders not accepted) and divided up for sale at three different locations:

Location Phone Number of Permits
Blue Ridge Ranger Station 928-477-2255 300 total permits available
Flagstaff Ranger Station 928-526-0866 200 total permits available
Forest Supervisor’s Office 928-527-3600 100 total permits available

The Christmas tree cutting area will be located in a southwestern area of the Mogollon Rim Ranger District just off of Highway 87, with Forest Roads 616 and 149 as boundary markers. Instructions and a map will be provided with each permit and the deadline for cutting will be December 24, 2015.
