Coconino National Forest Plan

San Francisco Peaks, Coconino County

Flagstaff AZ (September 2, 2010) – With the Coconino National Forest Plan Revision effort in full swing, updates to the web page occur on a monthly basis to provide current information to the public. Please check our web site for new developments.

A link for archived updates, to allow people to look back at previous months updates, has been added. Here are recent highlights from the August and September web updates:

  • August – Thanks for the potential wilderness areas comments! Additional documents related to potential wilderness are available.
  • We posted “Frequently Asked Questions” about our potential wilderness evaluation based on questions we received on the process, as well as additional information to clarify grazing management in wilderness. Both of these documents can be downloaded from the Forest Plan Revision Documents page.
  • September – Potential Wilderness Areas to carry forward in the initial revised Plan have been selected.
  • The Forest is also starting to draft Plan language for other topics.
  • Public meetings to help refine Plan still to come. The Forest leadership team has selected potential wilderness areas to include in our draft revised Plan and the leadership team also decided to further evaluate areas that were requested by the public for wilderness availability and need.
  • Potential wilderness areas that were not selected may still be considered in alternatives to the draft revised Plan. The Forest is starting the process of drafting language for the revised Plan based on identified needs and public feedback received to-date.
  • Additional meetings to get public input on Plan language/guidance are still to come.
