Claims of Racism Against Wake Up America

Sedona AZ (September 4, 2014) – The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

Bill Owens, Founder and President of CAAP, was in the civil rights movement decades ago. He sees the event of firing a black employee as subtle racism at its worse, and his organization is going to expose it.

Prior to the civil rights movement it was typical for a company to fire a black man after he had done the work and replace the black person with a white person that the black person had actually trained. This is almost exactly what happened with a local company here in Scottsdale, AZ. Except in this case, the black man actually recreated the entire company.

Wake Up America hired William Owens, Jr. on April 18, 2014 as Director of Media Development to rebrand and develop a new media platform for their company. He performed much of the work involved in rebranding the media platform – including managing projects and was the brainchild behind the Gala Event and Live Streaming of the network currently taking place this week. William Owens, Jr. personally invited Dr. Ben Carson and then flew to DC to interview him.  He also created and developed the website and designed promotional material. Due to the successful work he had done, they promoted him to Vice President of Media Developed in June.

After all the systems had been put in place, on July 28, 2014, Wake Up America terminated William Owens, Jr. for no valid reason and without any notice.  William Owens, Jr. actually discovered that he had been terminated from a third party – via email.  They refused to pay him his last weeks salary, unless he first signed a new contract nullifying the current contract – which provided a severance package and 15 percent ownership of the company that William Owens, Jr. actually help to create.

Bill Owens, Sr., father of William Owens, Jr., states, “This is typical American Racism.  Racism is alive and well in America.  It comes in many forms.  People think of the tragedy in Ferguson and believe that this is the only kind of possible racism. However, systemic racism is more common and more damaging because many times, it can be easily disguised.” And most African Americans will not fight it because they cannot afford it or be branded with the race card.

After attempting to seek amicable ways to resolve this issue with Wake Up America to no avail, William Owens, Jr. has hired an attorney to sue WUA and to picket the very affair that he organized. There are other facts that will be forthcoming, and his attorney has informed him to not disclose this information at this point.

Because of the lateness of the hour, Reverend Bill Owens, Sr., President and Founder of Coalition of African American Pastors did not have time to mobilize others who wanted to stand with William Owens, Jr.  CAAP is celebrating its 25 anniversary this year.  Numerous African American pastors of Phoenix served on the founding committee in the beginning of CAAP. Reverend Owens is in touch with these pastors and organizing to demonstrate at the offices of Wake Up America – against the racism that is so evident within this organization.  He is saddened that he has to return to Phoenix on this note, but he must. He worked with some great people in Phoenix when he was working with African Americans, Hispanics and Indians to acquire a college education. There are many success stories from CAAP of how many of their students went on to become ministers, doctors and even working in corporate America.

William Owens, Jr. will be demonstrating in front of the studios that Wake Up America shares with HD Broadcast AZ on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 3PM. They are located at Southwest Jet Corporate Center, 15010 N. 78th Way, Suite 206 Scottsdale, AZ 85260. He will then be in front of the Westin Kierland Spa and Resort in Scottsdale, AZ on Friday at 10AM.

Bill Owens, Sr. states, “It’s racism at its worse, and I have dealt with it for 25 years.”  “Being in the civil rights movement and marching with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I have first hand experience of this type of conduct.  Some people today do not recognize racism when they see it – but this is classic racism at its worse.

William Owens, Jr. wrote the book, “Obama: Why Black America Should Have Doubts.”  He has traveled with national conservative groups since 2008.  Bill Owens, Sr. was recognized nationally when he called President Obama “Judas” for selling out the morals of America.  CAAP has also initiated a petition to have Attorney General Eric Holder impeached.

Reverend Owens is available for interviews as well.
