CDC Issues Cell Phone Radiation Caution

cdc logoSedona AZ (August 14, 2014) – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, issued precautionary health warnings about cell phone radiation and tips on how to reduce one’s risk from exposure.

The CDC updated the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about cell phones and health on its web site.

CDC now asserts that “Along with many organizations worldwide, we recommend caution in cell phone use.” As the lead Federal health action agency, CDC provides tips to the public on how to “reduce radio frequency radiation near your body.”

girl cell phoneDr. Joel Moskowitz, Ph.D., University of California School of Public Health, Berkeley, agrees, “Health authorities at the Federal, state, and local level should follow CDC’s lead and disseminate precautionary health warnings to ensure that the public is adequately informed about the potential health risks of cell phone use and has the know-how to reduce exposure to the radiofrequency radiation emitted when carrying or using cell phones.

Moreover, the Federal Communications Commission should review CDC’s new position in light of the Commission’s obsolete regulatory standard for cell phone radiation that was adopted in 1996 when few adults used cell phones.”

CDC’s latest recommendations represent a considerable improvement in our Federal government’s position regarding cell phone radiation health risks and the need for precaution.

man boy cell phoneCDC indicates that more research is needed to understand the health risks of exposure to cell phone radiation. Moskowitz, too, believes the U.S. has been negligent in supporting research on wireless radiation health effects and proposes, “A major government research funding initiative could be launched with as little as a nickel-a-month fee on wireless subscriptions. This research initiative should be conducted independent of the wireless industry as we have considerable evidence that the industry has undermined much of the research it has funded in the past.”

For additional information about how to reduce exposure to wireless radiation, see the tips available on Electromagnetic Radiation Safety web site.

Most of us depend on cell phones every day. Some people wonder if cell phones can cause health problems. Here’s what you should know about cell phones and your health:

Can using a cell phone cause cancer?

There is no scientific evidence that provides a definite answer to that question. Along with many organizations worldwide, we recommend caution in cell phone use. More research is needed before we know for sure if using cell phones causes cancer.

Do cell phones give off (emit) radiation?

Yes – cell phones and cordless phones use radiofrequency radiation (RF) to send signals. RF is different from other types of radiation (like x-rays) that we know can be harmful. We don’t know for sure if RF radiation from cell phones can cause health problems years later. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified RF radiation as a “possible human carcinogen.” (A carcinogen is an agent that causes cancer.)

Should people stop using cell phones?

Scientific studies are ongoing. Someday cellphones may be found to cause health problems we are not aware of at this time. However it is also important to consider the benefits of cell phones. They can be valuable in an urgent or emergency situation– and even save lives.

If you are worried about cell phone use, follow the tips below.

Cell phone tips

To reduce radio frequency radiation near your body:

• Get a hands-free headset that connects directly to your phone.
• Use speaker-phone more often.
• If you have a pacemaker, keep cell phones at least 8 inches away from it.

Child with computer laptopDo cell phones cause health problems in children?

It’s too soon to know for sure. Children who use cell phones – and continue to use them as they get older – are likely to be around RF for many years. If RF does cause health problems, kids who use cell phones may have a higher chance of developing these problems in the future.

What research is being done to learn more about cell phones and health?

Scientists are continuing to study the possible health effects of cell phone use. The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently looking into how cell phones may affect:

• Some types of tumors (a lump or growth)
• Our eyes
• Sleep
• Memory
• Headaches

earAcoustic Neuroma

Scientists are looking into a possible link between cell phone use and certain types of tumor. One type is called an acoustic neuroma (“ah-COOS-tik nur-OH-ma”). This type of tumor grows on the nerve that connects the ear to the brain. It doesn’t cause cancer, but it may lead to other health problems, like hearing loss. Another type scientists are looking into is called a glioma (“glee-OH-ma”). This is a tumor found in the brain or central nervous system of the body.

Thank you so much for printing this important news.

As many of you are aware, there have been expansions going on on the cell towers in Sedona and the Village.
When they increase the height , they must go before local government and public because it will reach more homes . I notice now they are expanding the towers and area horizontally, not sure if local government is acting on that or simply allowing it.

Either way you are being pulsed with a 24/7 microwave radiation. Like the smart meter that 25% of residents opted out of. Very smart. Same microwave radiation.

There are plans for more towers every two miles and Cottonwood just approved two 90 footers right in the middle of the city. Yuk.

It has shown to decrease property values. The emissions have made people sick. The emissions have caused an early death for some.

Towers will be fair game for attorneys too. Especially those that go untested which is about 70% throughout the US. Big Money to be made there.

The SFD made 163,000 dollars in rental fees last year and I believe they own the tower structures. Take note.

These are for cases previous to the 1996 Congressional act that made it illegal for local government to base cell tower decisions on health or environment. The very reason most of you moved to the hight desert of Sedona/Verde Valley. It is a landmark case and the CDC issued this warning the next day so hang tight. People are going to start running for cover.

    Stay safe. Educate yourself.

  2. Yesterday I was on a cell phone call for about 40 minutes with a relative in SoCal & my left ear has been ringing ever since & it’s annoying. The reason I’m bothering to comment is that I don’t have ringing in my ears ever & it’s becoming less noticeable but it’s not completely gone. I will get a cord and stop carrying it in my pocket. Thanks for the tips-sent this to a lot of friends and family like Verizon asks.

Here you go Corky!!! from the Republic of Texas!!!!

Send this to your “friends and family”….and remember “more is better” according to another wireless carrier…….

Robert C. Kane had been working as top developer inside Motorola for decades, developing mobile phones. He died from brain cancer a few years ago, not without leaving this planet with a message, which you can find in his book:

    Cellular Telephone Russian Roulette
    A historical and scientific perspective
    Robert C. Kane

Excerpts from the book: This is for you Corky…

“[W]e can expect that no warning of brain tissue destruction
would be provided to a cellular telephone user until the damage
was so extensive that the scalp, which absorbs very little
    energy, sensed heating.”

When you place a cell phone to your head, it may spike some 217 times per second into your skull like a pneumatic hammer.

CDC Retracts its Precautionary Health Warning about Cell Phone Radiation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a precautionary health warning about cell phone radiation on June 9, 2014 and retracted the warning ten weeks later.

PRLog – Aug. 20, 2014 – BERKELEY, Calif. — On June 9th of this year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised the three-year old “Frequently Asked Questions about Cell Phones and Your Health,” on its web site.

A week ago we issued a press release commending CDC for advising the public about the need for caution regarding cell phone radiation exposure, especially among children (“CDC Issues Precautionary Health Warnings about Cell Phone Radiation”; 8/13/2014; http://www.prlog.org/12359483).

CDC’s new precautionary warning policy was consistent with the policies of more than a dozen national health and radiation safety agencies in developed nations around the world.

Following our press release, Microwave News published a report about this important new policy development in the U.S. (“CDC Calls for Caution on Cell Phones”; 8/16/2014; http://microwavenews.com/news-center/cdc-endorses-precaution).

Today, the CDC updated the FAQs and removed the precautionary advice it published ten weeks earlier.

Approximately 100 experts on electromagnetic radiation and health have signed declarations that were submitted to the FCC calling for precaution. It’s likely these experts would unanimously support CDC’s precautionary warning (“FCC: 98 Scientific Experts Demand Stronger Regulation of Cellphone Radiation; 8/4/2014; http://../12355167)?

Knowing how much administrative oversight CDC typically provides its media relations unit, we doubt that the CDC’s new policy statements were simply a mistake. What influenced CDC to retract its June 9th policy statements on cell phone use?

Following are the responses that CDC altered to three of the questions in its cell phone FAQs (http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/radiation/cell_phones._FAQ.html ).

    (1) “Can using a cell phone cause cancer?”

June 9: “There is no scientific evidence that provides a definite answer to that question. Along with many organizations worldwide, we recommend caution in cell phone use. More research is needed before we know for sure if using cell phones causes cancer.”

August 20: “There is no scientific evidence that provides a definite answer to that question. Some organizations recommend caution in cell phone use. More research is needed before we know if using cell phones causes health effects.”

    (2) Should people stop using cell phones?

June 9: “Scientific studies are ongoing. Someday cellphones may be found to cause health problems we are not aware of at this time. However it is also important to consider the benefits of cell phones. They can be valuable in an urgent or emergency situation – and even save lives.”

August 20: “At this time we do not have the science to link health problems to cell phone use. Scientific studies are underway to determine whether cell phone use may cause health effects. It is also important to consider the benefits of cell phones. Their use can be valuable in an urgent or emergency situation – and even save lives.”

    (3) Do cell phones cause health problems in children?

June 9: “It’s too soon to know for sure. Children who use cell phones – and continue to use them as they get older – are likely to be around RF for many years. If RF does cause health problems, kids who use cell phones may have a higher chance of developing these problems in the future.”
